Buffalo Pro Cheer Photos of The Week

Stephanie W, Aimee, and Hilary at the NFL Cheerleader Playoffs viewing party at Bada Bing
This week, we take a look back at Jills Alumnus Aimee G as part of our Photos of The Week series. Aimee spent 6 seasons with the Jills, the final 2 as a captain. In 2006, her first as a captain, she went to the Pro Bowl after a season that also saw her and Omarlla represent the Buffalo Jills in the NFL Cheerleader Playoffs...with a sweep of the events in the 1st round of the competition. That 1st round included an event that involved some swimming, something that Aimee gave Omarlla some lessons on just prior to the competition. She also showed off something else at a pair of events in 2006...a heck of a singing voice as she belted out a few tunes onstage at the FHM Release and the Calendar Release Parties. She made a 1-time comeback when she joined other alumni, the Bandettes, and the 2010 Jills in Toronto as part of a major halftime show involving the group Hinder.

From the Bandettes is a photo taken at the NLL All-Star Game. In their 21st season in the league, the Buffalo Bandits finally got to host the game and as evidenced by the fan turnout and involvement, the league has to be wanting the game in Buffalo on a regular basis. They also got the benefit of having the NLL's premier dance squad performing at the game. Shown posing for a photo just prior to pregame are Kirsten, Chelsea, Krista, Stephanie O, Lauren K, and Carissa.

Meet Aimee: cheered for the Buffalo Bills, “in love with math!”

Meet Aimee, our latest addition to our growing troop of Science Cheerleaders.
Aimee was a cheerleader for the Buffalo Bills, has a Master’s in Mathematics Education and teaches high school mathematics.

SciCheer: Tell me a little about your favorite math courses.
Aimee: I am absolutely a Geometry buff! I love it! My other favorites would have to be History of Mathematics and Linear Algebra

SciCheer: Do you find that your looks (or being a former cheerleader) helped or hindered your professional experiences as a math teacher? (Were you taken seriously?)
Aimee: At first I think people judged me or didn’t take me seriously because I was a cheerleader. I think there’s a misconception that ALL cheerleaders are uneducated. I had to PROVE to them that I was not who they thought I was. I am actually quite the nerd! I mean, come on, I own five different types of graphing calculators and make raps up about math!

Buffalo Jill of The Week Aimee G

I suppose it's rather fitting that the 2007 season's Inaugural Jill of The Week is Aimee G after the season she just came off of. 2006 was a big season for her for a number of reasons. She got named captain for the first time and helped demonstrate the dance routine at the Jills Open Workshop as part of tryouts the past 2 seasons. Prior to 2006, Aimee spent 2 seasons as Nichole's co-captain. Over the summer prior to the 2006 season, Aimee was one of 2 Jills chosen to go to Six Flags New England for the Inaugural NFL Cheerleader Playoffs. She and Omarlla were standouts, winning every one of their first round events. One notable part of that was the aquatic relay. Omarlla had only learned to swim, thanks to Aimee, a week before the trip but still had them in 3rd place when she finished her leg of the race. When Aimee took over, she made up ground in a fast way...getting into the lead by the midway point and finishing a good 1/2 length ahead of the nearest competitor. With all the rain at the Bills games last season, one has to wonder why Aimee never sprouted a tail like other mermaids. Aimee showed off her singing voice at both the FHM Release and the Swimsuit Calendar Release parties last season and finished off the season with a trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. Jills Co-captains announced

In addition to each squad on the field having a returning captain who doesn't have to try out for the squad and is in charge of making sure her squad is lined up properly, does the routines, etc, they also have co-captains...in case the captain can't make the game and to help coordinate things out there on the field. Jills practices have been going on ever since the squad was selected and it wasn't that long ago that girls were put into their squad assignments and co-captains are selected.
  • Joining 8-year vet Omarlla will be fellow 8-year vet Eileen as her co-captain once again.
  • Also returning as co-captain will be Nicole P, last year's Swimsuit Calendar covergirl and 4th year vet. This year she moves over to 6th year vet Jamie R's line.
  • That leaves Pro Bowl Jill Aimee without a co-captain and selected as her co-captain this year is 3rd year vet Katie K. Congratulations Katie!
  • On the Ambassador Squad, 5th year vet Kelly will be handling the captain duties on her own.
