Buffalo Jill of The Week Laura

This week, we take a look at retiring Jills Ambassador Squad captain Laura as our Buffalo Jill of The Week. Laura is probably the most recognized lady on the Jills and it has nothing to do with the Jills. Between Martin Archery, Redfield Redzone, CW23, and "Tell Me How You Really Feel," Laura's always kept in the public eye. Her next venture on tv may be a cooking show since she is reportedly a fantastic cook. Right now though, her big focus is on Team RWB, an organization working to connect military veterans to their communities through physical and social activities. With her husband directing the Buffalo chapter, Laura has been active in marathons on behalf of the cause. You can read more about Laura at http://buffalojills.com/profile.php?PID=65 Laura's secondary photo is from the Jills Open Workshop last spring featuring the 3 most recent Jills Ambassador Squad captains, Laura, Danielle S, and Keisha.

Congratulations to Laura!

Victoria Hong, Laura, and outgoing CW23 host Allie Hartwick
The last few months, TV station WNLO, CW23 in Buffalo, has been searching for its newest star and after auditioning over 60 people, including 1 Bandettes alumnus and 6 Jills and Jills alumni, they narrowed the list down to 23, including 4 Jills and alumni with the use of online voting. The final 5 were selected and were brought to Hamburg's McKinley Mall, where it all began, to tape the selection to be aired Wednesday night on CW23. They taped 5 different endings and when they aired it finally, Jills ambassador squad co-captain Laura emerged victorious. In addition to appearing in commercials and at community events, Laura will be co-hosting Winging It Buffalo Style weekday mornings on CW23 at 8am for the next year.

Katy and Laura vying for the CW23 job

Laura, Allie Hartwick, and Katy (2009 Jills)
WNLO-TV, CW23 in Buffalo, has employed a spokesperson for the last 4 years, a person who represents the station in the community and in advertisements among other things. For the 1st two years, Lydia Dominick held the job, which is given with 1-year contracts so that there's always a fresh face in the job to attract the station's normal demographic of viewers. Lydia brought a style to the station with her personality as well as her beauty and covered Buffalo Jills tryouts in 2008 and 2009 for the station. She even wound up becoming a sort of honorary Jill after her work with the squad. Her replacement, Allie Hartwick, brought a different sort of style to the job for the last two years as she grew with the role and had many experiences to take from it. Now, they've been looking for the next person to take the job for the last couple of months and they have it narrowed down to a field of 5. Today, they taped a special at the McKinley Mall in Hamburg, NY to introduce the new CW23 star to the public. However, they kept the winner a total secret, even to those competing for the role. They filmed 5 different endings for the show, one with each of the contestants winning the job. They'll be airing the finished product on Wednesday at 7pm ET and while we wish the best for whomever is chosen for the role, we definitely have someone we're rooting for to get the job, or in this case, 2 someones.
See the pics from today at http://buffaloprocheerbuffalojills.shutterfly.com/pictures/28031
Katy spent the 2009 season as a Buffalo Jills Ambassador, including a cover shot on the Buffalo Jills swimsuit calendar, after having interned at 97Rock and helping out with Jills events in 2008. She's less than a month away from graduating with her degree in broadcast journalism.
Laura is currently in her 5th season with the Jills and is the co-captain of the Buffalo Jills Ambassador Squad. In addition to her work on the Jills, she's very possibly the world's most well-known Jill as the Martin Archery Girl and has done her share of TV work with her own show on ESPN2 last summer.
Good luck to everyone in this contest but especially to our own Katy and Laura.

Good luck to Katy and Laura

As we've been telling you, a few of the girls who've been a focus on the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog are in the running to become the new CW23 spokesperson in Buffalo, a role originated by Lydia Dominick and currently held by Allie Hartwick. On Saturday, the five finalists will be at McKinley Mall in Hamburg for the taping of a special to introduce the public to the new CW Star. Among those finalists are 2009 Jills covergirl Katy and current Ambassador Squad co-captain Laura. Leading up to the special, CW23 is having each finalist on Winging It each weekday morning.

Monday they led off with Katy and you can see her feature at http://www.cw23.com/dpp/winging_it/meet-kaitlin
Tuesday was Laura's turn. You can see her feature at http://www.cw23.com/dpp/winging_it/meet-laura%21 She also appeared on Norton in The Morning on 97Rock Tuesday morning talking about the contest and the TD celebration that Bills WR David Nelson had on Sunday involving his girlfriend, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Kelsi Reich. They've podcasted the interview and you can listen or download it at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1374487&spid=21993

Buffalo Jill Of The Week Laura

This season's 1st Jill of The Week is 5th year vet Laura. This season she's the co-captain of the Jills Ambassador Squad, a role that requires her to be a great people person and able to carry on conversations with fans of all ages. Laura's very qualified at that and can talk with guys about things other than football. A lot of that stems from what she does a lot of the time when she's not acting as a Jill. She's the spokesmodel for Martin Archery and not only advertises the equipment, but uses it as well. In fact, last summer, ESPN2 aired a series of mini-episodes of Laura doing some hunting, and we're not talking about hunting for shopping bargains either. The show was called Redfield Redzone and focused on her learning and teaching about hunting, archery, and fishing. This is not to say she's totally tomboyish as she's still very feminine in many ways as well. For one thing, when she's actually home, which is rare considering how much time she seems to spend on the road, she's an ace in the kitchen with an award for her Ultimate Peanut Butter Pie as well as requests from her squadmates to bring some of her cookies or other concoctions to practices or to games. Laura's secondary photo comes from the Kid's Day game where several of the Jills Ambassadors were posing for photos and signing autographs in Lot C. Shown in the photo are Jessica, Laura, and Sara.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Laura

If you actually need an introduction to our current Jill of The Week, congratulations on waking from your coma. 4th year vet Laura is easily the most well-known member of the Buffalo Jills and it has more to do with what she does away from the squad than her duties as a member of the Jills Ambassador Squad. She's well-known as the Martin Archery Girl with 3 National Archery Championships and can be found all over the country at various exhibitions involving archery and hunting. Yes, I said hunting too. That's the other big thing she's involved in. She's become an avid hunter the past few years and landed her own show on ESPN2 this past summer called Redfield Redzone. Now, before you think she's strictly tomboyish (without looking the part obviously), she's also an ace in the kitchen and has won awards for her baking. She's even frequently taken some of her famed cookies to Jills practices over the past few years. Those were practices the rest of the squad made sure not to miss!! Laura's secondary photo is from the Fieldhouse prior to the Browns game in December. For that game, Ruby and Laura got to meet and greet fans inside the Fieldhouse before donning their ponchos while handling promotions in the stadium during the game.

A Buffalo Jill gets her own TV show!

No, this isn't about If I Can Dream star Amanda P, who left the house a couple of months ago and is starting up her own jewelry business online very soon. This show features one of the most well-known Buffalo Jills in the USA, 4th-year ambassador squad vet Laura F. As anyone who knows anything about Laura should be able to guess, the show is an outdoors show dealing with archery and hunting. It's called Redfield Redzone and starts airing this weekend on ESPN2.

Laura was originally approached about doing a show a few years ago and, while nothing came of it, the idea was out there and she was asked about it again last year and the end result is what we'll be seeing the next few months on ESPN2. She's a new hunter learning lots of hunting techniques as she goes along, some techniques that more experienced hunters aren't even aware of. Warm Springs Productions, the makers of the show, aren't focusing 100% on the hunting though as there will be a few extras included from time to time including a look at Laura's famed baking abilities (she's won numerous awards and her squadmates really look forward to the practices and gamedays that, on occasion, include some of her cooking.

Her squadmates, while some are initially shocked at what she does for a living, are all behind her 100% and proud of all she's accomplished thus far.

Check out this promo for the show from Warm Springs Productions on Youtube

as well as mark the dates and times the show will air.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Laura

This week, we take a look at 3rd year vet Laura as our Jill of The Week. If you're into archery very much, you really need no introduction to the Martin Archery girl. This happily married (sorry guys) woman has been working with Martin Archery for the past several years but she isn't just a model. She's also a 3-time National Archery Champion, an avid hunter, and also into fishing, cooking, working out, and spending time with her husband and their pets when she gets the chance to relax at home. She's constantly on the go and probably spends more time on airplanes than anywhere else with the many hunting shows she attends. She even had to meet up with the squad in Canton for the HOF game as she had been at a hunting show until the day before in the Midwest. While the squad arrived via limobus a few hours before the game, Laura made sure she'd be there to meet them, getting to town the night before and showing up where the bus arrived before it got there. She describes herself as trustworthy, thoughtful, driven, and honest. Her dedication is probably one of her strongest qualities, though. Only thing about her self-description is...she's not always that honest. But I'm certainly not saying that in a bad way by any means. On occasion, she will call herself chunky or something but I think I can guarantee that if you took a poll of all the girls on the squad, they'd all say she's one of the most physically fit women they know. Take a look at some of her pics on 97Rock at http://97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1374487&spid=21993 and read more about her at http://buffalojills.net/roster/Laura.php

Making the Squad - Prep Class...and some hot pics of Laura on 97Rock

The 2nd in a series of reports from Jills tryouts was released today. This one focused on the 2nd prep class that took place just a week before the Open Workshop. Included are interviews with some prospective rookies including a few girls that made the squad, Kelly and Alyssa. Check it out at http://www.cw23.com/dpp/cw23_girl/wildcard_08/making_the_squad_2

Also, as many fans know, 3rd year vet Laura is, besides a well-loved member of the Ambassador Squad, a certified pro archer and hunter. 97Rock has a set of pictures up featuring the world's sexiest archer at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1374487

Champion Archer, Award-Winning Chef, Pro Cheerleader

Laura started dancing in Salt Lake City around the age of five and she favors any modern style of dance. She had always wanted to be a cheerleader but always “chickened out” at tryouts at the last minute. Sports always came very easy to her. In high school and college (at Snow College in Utah and Northern State University in South Dakota) she played centerfield on her softball team. She says it consumed her life and she lived for it, so that’s what she stuck with.
Laura’s a huge football fan, and loves charity work. The Jills are very involved in the community and that really impressed her. So she decided to try out for the Jills. What she did not expect to love all the girls and be as close to them as she is.

Jills Blog: Visiting the Troops in Afghanistan

Buffalo Jills Alison and Laura check in on their amazing journey to visit our Troops..

Hey, we just wanted to let you know what we were up to so far... Our flight from Buffalo to Philadelphia was canceled, so we flew into Boston and spent the night there. Our flight to Germany was the next day and we had about a six hour layover in Germany so we went into the City and had some breakfast.

We finally arrived in Doha, Qatar at about 11pm on Friday after about two days of traveling. We were picked up and brought to the base which was about an hours drive from the airport. Once we got on base (and made it through all the security check stops), they showed us our rooms and went right to bed, we were so tired!

Buffalo Jill of The Week Laura

If you're really into archery, you already know who Laura is. Originally from the state of Utah, she's the face of Martin Archery and isn't just modeling for them. She's an accomplished bowperson herself and has won 3 national and 2 state tournaments. This 2nd year Ambassador is frequently on the road to various archery tournaments around the country, shooting her bow as well as meeting people. When she's not on the road with archery, charity events, or as a Jill, she spends those rare times with her husband and her kitchen. She loves to cook and is, by all reports, great at it as well. Beyond all that, she loves shattering stereotypes. You'd think someone with her looks would make it known that she's proud of them. Well, she's quite the opposite. Out of the entire squad, she's one of the most physically fit of all of them but likes to joke that she's "chunky" when it's impossible to see anything remotely resembling fat on her body. You can read more about Laura at http://www.buffalojills.net/bios/Laura.html and don't forget to check out her 97Rock photo album at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=975778&spid=21992

97 Rock-a-thon pics

As a part of a telethon to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western NY, 97Rock's morning radio guru, Larry Norton, stayed on the air from 6am Thursday until 10am Friday. The telethon raised over $255,600 for the foundation pushing the station's 14-year total to $2.175M.
Working with this telethon were not only Jickster, the #2 Jills fan in existence, but 3 of the beautiful members of the Buffalo Jills Ambassador Squad. The following is a link to some pics of the telethon, including some pics of Amanda F, Tiffany, and Laura.

Buffalo Jills Photos of The Week

This week, we have a couple different sources for pictures. The first pic comes from this year's Jills Congratulatory Party held at Club Paradise the night of the NFL Draft. It features the formerly shy Vincenza, a 2nd year member of the Ambassador Squad with rookie Rita, who showed off her dance moves at the Open Workshop this year. You can see her in this video for example. http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/buffalojills2005/2008/Open%20Workshop/?action=view&current=70.flv That's her directly behind Lisa in the white pants and red and white striped shirt.

Our second pic comes from last year's Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament and features Ambassador Squad members Danielle, Katherine, Laura, and Amanda F getting set to head out on the course with their golf parties. Danielle, Katherine, and Amanda were each bid on by golfers to join their groups for the day. So in addition to seeing the Jills at lunch and dinner as well as at various holes around the course, 3 lucky foursomes each had a member of the Buffalo Jills accompanying them all 18 holes as well. This year's Golf Tournament will also be held at Fox Valley Country Club in Lancaster, NY and takes place on July 21st so don't hesitate to make sure you have the day off for this event!

In addition to the Golf Tournament, we'll see numerous rookie Jills at the Taste of Buffalo on July 11 and 12th in Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo. Just look for the Bills booth as well as booths for 97Rock and 103.3 The Edge to meet some of these beautiful young rookie Jills.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Laura

We end 2007 and go into 2008 taking a look at one of our rookies with Ambassador Squad member Laura. She's not the typical girly-girl by any means as we've come to expect to some extent from the Jills. This married woman spends some of her free time traveling around the country to participate in, and win, archery tournaments. And while we have girls like Kelly and Jenica driving around in sporty cars, Laura drives a big truck. But don't let her tomboyish interests fool you, Laura is all woman and a total health and fitness nut. She put 6 months of work in prior to tryouts in getting into top shape, even going as far as hiring a personal trainer. All the work was worth it as she, obviously, nailed a spot on the squad despite her concerns that she wasn't even going to make the first cut. You can read more about Laura at http://buffalojills.net/bios/laura.html

Pictures from Zebb's Deluxe Bar and Grill

All season long, the Jills have teamed up with the Bills and 97Rock to bring a Monday Night Football party to Zebb's Deluxe Bar and Grill, alternating it between the Amherst and Orchard Park locations. In addition to watching Monday Night Football with the Jills and some Bills players, there are trivia questions for prizes as well as a contest for a trip for 4 to Tampa Bay. The drawing will take place on the 17th at the Amherst location, the last of these parties for the season.
On December 10th, DJ Jickster from 97Rock hosted the party and brought along Bills players Brian Moorman and Rian Lindell for the fans to meet. Also in attendance were Mrs New York Jennifer Stehler and Laura from the Buffalo Jills. Here are some photos of Laura with some of the fans as well as the players.

Laura's First Cheering Stint Is With Jills

Having never been a cheerleader before, Ellington resident Laura F. decided that at the age of 33 there was no better time than the present to start.

After six months of training, she is now one of the newest members of the Buffalo Jills cheerleading squad.

‘‘It was on my list of things to do and I figured that this year would be one of my last opportunities,’’ Francese said. ‘‘When I initially started training in October, my goal was to just tryout.’’
