A couple of days ago, the news broke that the lawsuit filed on behalf of individual Jills cheerleaders against their handlers was finally settled.
While the article was correct in some of the basics, it does make several errors as well. For one, Miss Ferrari wasn't a part of the original April 2014 lawsuit. She filed later and the cases were merged. Also, while Caitlin's lawsuit was focused on the money aspect, the original lawsuit filed by the original 5 Jills alums focused just as much on the mistreatment they said they received at the hands of the Jills director.
While I don't claim to be a journalist, the errors are a mark of irresponsible journalism and the article only furthers the ire that some alums have against the ladies who brought forth the lawsuit when they share a similar goal....to return the Jills to the sidelines of Bills games under fair and safe conditions.
What does the settlement mean for the future of the Jills? Maybe everything and maybe nothing. I do know this, though. About a year after the lawsuit went public and the squad was shut down, I was told by someone who I used to sit near at Bills games that Kim Pegula had told a reporter friend of his off the record that she wanted the Jills back. Now, whether that source was accurate and whether she still feels that way remains to be seen but hope springs eternal.
