Jills in Iraq February 27, 2007 Evening (Iraq time)

Greetings from Iraq! We started our day at Freedom Rest, located right outside of Baghdad. It was more like a resort than an army base. Freedom Rest was originally built for Sadam's officers to stay in, and it was very luxurious. Next we took a tour of Prosperity, which was built around one of Sadam's old palaces.

Bandette Profiles: Melissa

Third year Bandette Melissa loves jazz dancing the most because it gives her a chance to express her personality, which can be seen as unique, as she was voted most likely to go to jail by her fellow Bandettes last year. She loves performing at Bandits games and putting on the different outfits that the Bandettes get to wear.

Jills in Iraq...Days 3 and 5

February 24, 2007 11:30pm(Iraq time)
We started the day off with breakfast at 6:00am. Immediately after we rucked up (put our gear on) and boarded a Black Hawk helicopter. We flew to a meet and great at camp Sykes At that camp we were presented with an American flag and a certificate that stated it was flown for 9 minutes and 11 seconds in the face of the enemy.
February 26,2007 7:11am
We weren't able to write last night because of delays. We landed at our first base yesterday around 9:00am and were stuck there till almost 7:30pm. When we first arrived at the base we did a really fun meet and greet. The troops asked if they did a dance for us would we do our Shout dance for them.

Wings game pics

On Saturday night, the Bandits returned home after a 3-game road trip that left them 4-4 on the season. 14,882 fans showed up and witnessed a nail-biter that included a few fights and a winning goal from the Bandits with 8 seconds left in the game. Also returning to HSBC Arena after a 3-game absence was the NLL's premier dance team...the Buffalo Bandettes! The girls showed no signs of rust as they helped cheer on the team to victory. The NLL's January 29th Girl of the Week Jenna even showed off some acrobatic talent as she did some flips during one of the routines.
Here are some photos taken at the game. A bit of news also came at this game. The Bandettes individual and team photos were taken prior to the game so the Bandettes official page should soon have bios and, after another long road trip (the Bandits don't play at home for another month), Bandettes posters *should* be available prior to the next home game.

Day 2 of the Jills in Iraq

February 23, 2007 11:00pm (Iraq time)
This morning we all had a wake up call at 4:30am and while we were getting ready we heard a prayer that played outside over a speaker at 5:00am. We're not exactly sure but the information we got was that it plays five times a day. At approximately 7:00am, we were issued military gear consisting of a plated vest, a helmet and special glasses. The total weight of it all was probably 25 pounds. We have to wear this gear around the bases.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Keiyonna

Former Buffalo Bombshell Keiyonna is our current Jill of The Week. After the Destroyers left town, she wasn't willing to stop cheering and has been with the Jills since 2004. In addition to dance, she enjoys entertaining through song, as attendees to the FHM and Swimsuit Calendar Release Parties can attest to. While some of her fellow Jills might enjoy a good party, if there's a football game on, you can probably find Keiyonna in front of the TV. She spent a good part of the 2005 FHM Release/Bills Preseason Viewing Party watching the Bills game and often keeps watching the game after the Jills leave the field at the 2-minute warning at the end of the game. You can read more about Keiyonna in the files section and check out her sizzling swimsuit photos at FCI"s official site.

Day 1 of the Jills in Iraq

It's been an extremely long day of flying. Buffalo to Ny to Germany to Kuwait was approximately 14 hours flying time but a full day of travel time. We're so happy to finally be in Kuwait. We were all very impressed as soon as we got off the plane, it's beautiful here. Kuwait is full of amazing architecture and scenery. We thought we saw a ton of palm trees which was really unexpected on our way to the hotel.

Bandette Profiles: Danielle

After seeing the Nutcracker at a young age, third year Bandette, Danielle was placed in dance classes by her mom. That early start in the dance industry has left some great and not so great memories with her. One of her great memories was getting pulled up on stage at a Bon Jovi concert to dance with the band.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Jennifer

This fresh-faced beauty just completed her first season (but hopefully not last) as a Buffalo Jill. She was one of the contributors to the Jills' win over Durf's Dollies last Father's Day (yeah, they claim they won but anyone who saw the game knew the Jills had them beat...lol) and someday hopes to increase her sporting abilities to include skiing. She's now danced for 16 years (and she only just turned 21) including 2 years in college. You can read more about Jennifer in the files section and check out her sizzling swimsuit photos at FCI"s official site

Buffalo Jill of The Week Omarlla

She is one of only 2, along with Eileen, girls left from the 2000 squad and shows no signs of slowing down. Omarlla was one of the competitors for the Jills in the Inaugural NFL Cheerleader Playoffs for NFL Network this year. In addition to that, she was the Jills' representative in the Pro Bowl a couple of years ago and spent 2 years performing double duty...the Jills in the fall and the Bandettes in the spring. You can read more about Omarlla at

and check her out in some sizzling swimwear at FCI's official site http://www.fishercreativeimage.com/Jills/individual.html#omarlla

Bandette Profiles: Meghan

Second year Bandette Meghan followed her sister into dancing when she was young and then in regards to dancing for a professional team. Also helping her to make the decision to join the Bandettes, was her daughter. After her birth, Meghan wanted to keep in shape, keep dancing, and go out and make some new friends. Mission accomplished.

Buffalo Jills To Perform In Iraq

8 members of the Buffalo Jills have been invited to participate in a 10 day military tour of Iraq in February and March. The NFL cheerleaders have been busy planning a 30 minute performance. They've been rehearsing once a week for an hour long show which they'll perform for soldiers two times a day at bases all over the country. There are many military guidelines to adhere to and the squad says they're both anxious and excited.

Rock game pics

On Friday night, the Bandits played host to the rival Toronto Rock in the first game of a home-and-home series. The Bandits' play can be summed up in one word...sloppy. Poor passing and stupid penalties highlighted the contest as the hometown team lost 14-10. However, one part of the team was far from sloppy. Even down 2 girls (Amanda F only expects to miss one more game), the Bandettes were still on their game as seen in these pics from Friday night.

Buffalo Jill of the Week Lori

2nd year Vet Lori is our Jill of the Week this week and she can be classified as an addict...of professional cheerleading...an addiction I'm sure we all hope she doesn't kick anytime soon. Besides 2004 and2006 as a Jill, she spent 3 years as a Bombshell, cheering for the AFL's Buffalo Destroyers, and part of a season as the captain of the Buffalo Rush, cheering on the Rapids ABA team. She even provided us with a complimentary Rush swimsuit calendar as seen at http://s73.photobucket.com/albums/i237/bjg1/Rush%20swimsuit%20pics/

When she's not cheering or working on pursuing her medical career, she's also an avid golfer...although I'm sure, when she reads this, she'll understand when I say I hope she's getting more time to golf this offseason....preferably with a squadmate who could probably make it on the LPGA Tour....Anyway, you read more about Lori at http://2006.buffalojills.net/usersphp/profile/profile.php?username=lori and check out her swimsuit pics from FCI at http://www.fishercreativeimage.com/Jills/individual.html#lorim
