Buffalo Jill of The Week Jessica

This week, we take a look at our first member of the Ambassador squad with rookie Jessica. A native of Dansville, NY, she seems to have the biggest personal cheering squad of all the rookies with all the support she's gotten from family, friends, and even people she doesn't know in the small town she's from. But even with all the support she's gotten, she's been working hard in her role as an ambassador and even took this semester off from college so that she could handle the demands of her rookie season. With a intended career field in communications and media arts, she could be looking at a career in radio or television...and considering her talkative nature, I have to think she'll be on the microphone no matter which way she goes in her career. Jessica's secondary photo comes from the Friday evening Draft party that the Buffalo Bills held at the Fieldhouse this past April. Shown posing for the camera are Jessica, Sara J, and Danielle, three of the lovely rookies joining the Jills this year.

You can read more about Jessica at http://buffalojills.net/article.asp?id=1961185 Also, check out an article her hometown newspaper did about her a couple months ago at http://www.dansvilleonline.com/news/x90332044/From-Dansville-Mustang-to-Buffalo-Jill

Jills update

Just wanted to pass on the word that the 97Rock Away Game parties at the Aud are no more. Unfortunately, the Bills' record scared the Aud off from holding the parties. However, everyone knows how devoted Bills fans are to their team, especially with the impressive offensive output shown against a tough Ravens "D" and 97Rock is hoping to find another host for their Away game parties that come complete with lots of giveaways as well as appearances by a pair of Buffalo Jills cheerleaders. Any sports bar in the Buffalo area that has lots of TVs tuned into the Bills game every Sunday should get into touch with DJ Jickster at 97Rock if they're interested in making their bar THE bar to be at when the Bills are on the road. The Contact link can be found at http://www.97rock.com/contactus.asp
Also, if you don't own or manage a sports bar in Buffalo and don't want to go out to one to watch the game, the Jills and Tops have been awarding a tailgate party every week this season. For road games, a pair of Buffalo Jills will deliver a tailgate party with lots of food from Tops and even hang out to watch part of the game with you. For home games, the winner doesn't get home delivery from the Jills, but they do still get the prize package and will just have to swing by Citadel Studios to collect it. Vincenza at Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is a big 2 1/2 week celebration in Germany that's been happening for 200 years there, since 1810. The celebration has spurred on similar celebrations all over the world where various communities hold their own Oktoberfest festivals. This year, it was time for Niagara Falls, NY to start up a small festival. Included were German foods and beer as well as various vendors, a kid's zone, and authentic German music performed by many Western NYers of German/Austrian/Swiss heritage. They also brought in the Buffalo Jills to meet and greet the patrons as well as sign autographs and pose for pictures. In this time of year, the weather has been going through a large amount of changes and unfortunately, some of the girls who had signed up for this appearance took ill, leaving 4th year ambassador Vincenza to handle things on her own, with me there watching out for her as well as helping out with photos. Anyone who has gotten to know Vincenza at all already knows what an intelligent and personable young lady she is. She mingled with patrons as well as the vendors while signing autographs and taking a few photos for fans. Check out the photos at http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/buffalojills2005/2010/Oktoberfest/
Coming up next, the Jills will be putting on a special performance at halftime of the Toronto game on November 7th. The Rock group Hinder is playing a 2-song set and the Jills will be performing along with the music...along with several other dancers including the Bandettes, members of the Buffalo Jills alumni, and members of the Buffalo Jills Ambassador Squad!

Buffalo Jill of The Week Kristen

This week, we take a look at a 2nd year vet who went through a big change from her rookie season to this season. Kristen spent last year on the Ambassador Squad and was one of two girls, along with Nicole, to switch over to the dance squad and is spending her gamedays on Omarlla's line between Omarlla and Jackie. The first part of the word cheerleader is cheer, which says that the girls who fill the role of cheerleader need to have some positivity and optimistic attitudes. Kristen, as anyone who's met her knows, has more than "some" positivity and it's definitely not fake. In the year and a half I've known her, I've yet to see her without a smile and certainly hope she keeps that streak going for many years to come. She hopes to pass on that positive attitude to her students with the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher one day. Kristen's secondary photo is from the Jills Golf Tournament held in Williamsville this past August and features the 3 Musketeers. Kristen, Alyssa, and Nicole have been best of friends and virtually inseparable since their freshman year of college. I say virtually since Alyssa decided to remain on the ambassador squad this season. Next season however, who knows? Personally I just hope they all return for their 3rd seasons as they graduate next spring.

At the 1st rd of cuts, vets can choose their tryout numbers not only so that they can go in a certain order, but so they can tryout with a certain squadmate. Kristen and Nicole chose each other to dance with as they were both making the switch to dance and they've been friends for many years now, long before the Jills. Check out their video here.

Some dates to circle for Jills and Bandettes appearances

First up is this weekend when we have 2 Jills appearances to remind you about.
Niagara Falls, NY is hosting its 1st Annual Oktoberfest with festivities going from noon to 11pm on Saturday featuring authentic German entertainment, food, and beer. Also included is a Kid's Zone opened from 12-6pm and a Buffalo Jills Meet and Greet.
On Sunday, the only place to be to watch the Bills game is the Aud Sports Bar in Depew. 97Rock's Jickster will have lots of giveaways during the game and the Aud will have drink specials, 50-cent wings, and a halftime buffet. But the biggest reason to be there, outside of watching the Bills game with a bar full with other Bills fans, is the Buffalo Jills. There is a pair of them there every game and they do have their incredibly hot calendars with them.
Also featuring the Jills is their Open Practice on November 16th. It takes place from 6:30-8:30 that evening and costs $5 for participants and $3 for spectators. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn from the pros. Last year's event was a huge success and all the girls learning from the Jills had a great time. See what happened last year at http://buffaloprocheer.blogspot.com/2009/09/photos-and-videos-from-jills-open.html and get all the info on this year's event at http://buffalojills.net/Article.asp?id=1971677&spid=34534
With the Bandettes, we have two big events coming up in the next month and a half.
November 27th is the annual World's Largest Disco at the Buffalo Convention Center and in addition to everyone wearing platform shoes and an appearance by an as-yet-to-named celebrity from the 70s. It's also a great chance to meet many of the 2011 Buffalo Bandettes and see them perform. Unfortunately, only the girls that are at least 21 can go but they are working on something to help make up for that. The event is sold out but you may be able to find tickets available before the event.
On December 5th, before you head to the Aud to watch the Bills and Vikings square off, stop by HSBC Arena as the Buffalo Bandits are hosting their annual Open Practice from 10-2pm. The event gives fans the chance to see the team in a practice setting while selecting seats for season tickets if they don't have them already...or want to change seats. They also get to see the 2011 Buffalo Bandettes perform as a full squad together for the first time!

The Bandettes at CCC'S Cheer and Dance Spooktacular

On Sunday, Cheektowaga High School was the host for a big cheer and dance competition and just prior to the awards being given out, members of the 2011 Buffalo Bandettes put on a performance. Check it out in this YouTube video posted by an attendee of the competition.

CHEERS THROUGH THE YEARS

In the beginning, there were 20 cheerleaders for the Buffalo Bills. They carried megaphones, wore turtlenecks, and between them there was not a sequin in sight. “We were cheerleaders, not dancers,” said Jo Ann Gaulin, 74, who helped found the Buffalo Jills in 1967. “We cheered with megaphones and placards, and when we said, ‘Go, Bills, Go,’ you could hear us at home on the radio. You could hear us on TV.”

On one recent night, scrapbooks were being passed like a football in the Lake View home of Chris Sullivan Polito, 63, who cheered for the Buffalo Bills from 1971 to 1979. Polito – like her fellow cheerleading alumni – met to swap stories, share time and reflect on the changing phases of their sport.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Jaclyn

This week, we take a look at another rookie as our Jill of The Week. Spending her gamedays dancing on Omarlla's line next to Jackie, Jaclyn comes across as pretty mature for her age, having graduated college last year out of state in Pittsburgh, PA. Thankfully, she loves Buffalo a lot more than the Steel City and came back home to cheer on the Bills. While the sports teams and family (she admits to being a daddy's girl) are normal reasons for anyone to love Buffalo, the fact that you can wear a winter coat in May isn't something most people mention. Thankfully, girls like Jaclyn can also wear a bikini in May and look incredible doing it as seen in this year's Jills calendar. Jaclyn's secondary photo is from the Saturday Draft Party at the Bills Fieldhouse this past April and features a trio of beautiful rookie dancers. Shown posing for the camera are Emily, Jaclyn, and Jen.

Jaclyn was one of the final three girls to try out for the Jills dancers at 1st cuts along with another prospective rookie and Jills alumnus Kristin M. Take a look at the video here.

More pics from the Jags game and something to expect for the Toronto game

BuffaloJills.net has a few sets of field level photos up from Sunday's game, many of them from Jills official photographer Brian Garman. Check out the links for the various albums.

Also, the Jills' next game performance will be the game in Toronto against the Chicago Bears and they plan on going all out for it. They are still accepting applications for a Toronto Jr Jills contingent through the 18th. Get all the info at http://buffalojills.net/Article.asp?id=1867404
They also have a special halftime performance planned as well. Rock group Hinder, on tour currently, is making a special stop and playing at halftime of the Bills-Bears game and the Jills will be performing to their music. They won't be alone, though. There will also be 50 other dancers performing as well and these other dancers will be made up, at least in part, by a number of Buffalo Jills alumni as well as the 2011 Buffalo Bandettes!!

The Jills and an alumnus at the Bills-Jags game

This summer, we caught up with Jills alumnus Amelina after a Bills training camp practice and she decided to make a trip back to Buffalo for a Bills game and joined me for some tailgating in Lot 1, home of the famed Red Pinto Tailgate party.

Pinto Ron and Amelina (2008)
After she met up with some more friends, I went off to the Fieldhouse and got a few updates from the Jills director on various items, including an injured Jill who hurt herself in practice last week. After that, I spent some time getting pics of a pair of stunning Jills ambassadors in Alyssa and Michelle before they spent the game doing all the on-camera promotions around the stadium.

Alyssa and Michelle inside the Fieldhouse
The 97Rock tailgate party went all out as they unveiled a carving of Andre Reed, hosted a dunk tank with proceeds going to Carvings For A Cause, an organization that does carvings with fallen trees with proceeds going to replace the trees that fell during the October Storm of 2006. The Andre Reed carving joined the carvings of Chris Berman and Jim Kelly outside the Big Tree Inn, at the corner of Big Tree and Abbott Roads.

Vincenza, Meghan, Amanda F, Eileen's bf, Keisha, Ruby, Laura, and Gina at the 97Rock tailgate party
Even with 7 Buffalo Jills Ambassadors on hand, things were hectic as the Jills calendars were selling quickly to all the fans on hand on this beautiful day.

Amelina (2008), Jackie, Anna, Eileen, Stefanie, and Kristen
After that, it was off to the 103.3 The Edge Tailgate party where Lindsay, Taryn, Sara, and Courteney were also doing very well with calendar sales. They were doing so well, in fact, that Sara even had to go over to the 97Rock Tailgate party to restock their supply when they sold out. Amelina also made a reappearance as she wanted to see her former squadmates perform live at 11:30 there in Lot C.

Christina's line posing for pictures in the 4th quarter
After the performance and some photos and autographs, it was time to get ready for the game which started after 11-year vet Eileen delivered the game ball. In the game itself, the Bills started off strong but ended off quite the opposite. The Jills however, kept it going strong from start to finish, dancing and cheering on the sidelines, posing for photos, and putting on some powerful performances.
Coming up next for the Jills, some of them will be appearing at Oktoberfest in Niagara Falls, NY on October 23rd and then they'll be in attendance for the 97Rock Away Game party on October 24th at the Aud Sports Bar in Depew as the Bills play in Baltimore against the Ravens. Another away game follows on the 31st before the Jills and Toronto Jr Jills (registration is due in one week http://buffalojills.net/Article.asp?id=1867404&spid=34534 invade the Rogers Centre for the Bills-Bears game on November 7th with the Jills' next home appearance on November 14th.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Amanda V

This week, we take a look at the first of the Jills rookies as our Jill of The Week. On gamedays, she can be found between our 2 previous Jills of The Week, Lisa and Christina, on Christina's line. Before joining the Jills, Amanda got to travel some of the country as a dance and cheer instructor and is currently working towards becoming a lawyer, even watching shows like Law and Order to help herself out some in achieving her goals. Amanda is the type of girl who seems to be always on the go. She loves staying busy and has a hard time getting bored with all the activities that she likes to do. Of course, being on the Jills is keeping her even busier than normal with practices two nights a week as well as appearances and gamedays. It's not something she's having a problem with and she hopes to keep at it beyond the 2010 season. Her secondary photo is from the 8th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament and shows her posing with the dance captains. From left to right we have Amanda V, Eileen, Omarlla, and Christina

Veteran dancers often pair off and dance together at the 1st rd of cuts, a practice that many prospective rookies have done as well. Most times it seems, only one girl from a rookie pairing makes the squad but there are occasions in which both girls make it. Whether it was by design or not, Amanda paired up with gymnastic dynamo Jill for 1st cuts and we're obviously blessed to have them both on the 2010 Buffalo Jills.

Jills bios and more pics from Sunday's game

This season, the Jills website underwent a design change, keeping it in line with other Citadel Broadcasting sites like those of 97Rock and 103.3 The Edge. It's been a work in progress with updates and additions and the biggest update was done this week, with 2010-2011 Buffalo Jills individual bios. Meet all 42 members of the Buffalo Jills at http://buffalojills.net/Article.asp?id=1974064&spid=34534
Also, Jills photographer Brian Garman, who shot this year's Jills calendar, was on the sidelines for Sunday's game against the Jets and contributed a plethora of photographs to the Jills' website.

It doesn't look like you'll catch a glimpse of the Jills on TV if you're in Western NY because a sellout isn't expected for the game so there's plenty of tickets remaining to see the squad in action this Sunday when the Bills host Trent Edwards and the Jaguars. Make sure to be in Lot C at 11:30 for the Jills performance, too.

The Jills at the Jets-Bills game

When the weather is miserable and the team's performance is far from enjoyable, it's nice to have beautiful women on the sidelines to keep the fans from totally losing interest.

Amanda F and Gina started off in the Fieldhouse with Steph before handling most of the promotions going on during the game

Michelle, Vincenza, Ruby, and Sara J at the 97Rock Tailgate party where the new Buffalo Jills Calendars were on sale for $15 apiece...a bargain price when you consider how beautiful it is

Alyssa, Meghan, Laura, and Gabrielle at the 103.3 The Edge Tailgate Party
In addition to appearances at Citadel's events before the game by the Ambassadors, members of the Jills dancers put on a performance in Lot C at 11:30 to what seemed to be a larger crowd than at the Opener.

Current Jill of The Week Christina delivered the game ball with Lisa, last week's honoree, accompanying her
All throughout the day, the Jills sported pink outfits and used pink pom-poms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the NFL and joined Bills alumni on the field as 2010 Wall of Fame honoree Booker Edgerson was honored for his contributions to the Bills, the same Booker Edgerson who posed with Murissa, Gina, and Meghan at the Bills draft party this past April.

Omarlla's line at the start of the 2nd half
Coming up next, the Jills will be rooting the Bills on against the Jacksonville Jaguars when the Bills host ex-QB Trent Edwards' new team on October 10th at the Ralph. Kickoff is at 1pm with the Jills dancers' performance taking place in Lot C at 11:30am. Make sure to show up early to get your Jills calendars from the girls and get them signed by a large number of beautiful Buffalo Jills!

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

This week, we take a look at the Jills' newest dance captain as our Jill of The Week. Christina got named as a co-captain in 2008 and took over her own line midway through the 2009 season when her captain unexpectedly resigned. She obviously impressed her squadmates with her performance as a captain as she got named to go to the Pro Bowl after the season. Performing between Amanda V and Morgan on the line, Christina is 1 of 3 5th-year vets on the squad with Valerie and Stefanie. Now, I'm not saying she plans to stick around for another 5 years or more, but Valerie has told me that she and Christina joke about being the next Omarlla and Eileen, who have each been on the squad for 11 seasons now. In any event, we definitely hope to have her around for quite a while longer as she's a great dancer and, more than that, sets a great example for the less experienced girls on the squad. Christina's secondary photo this week is from Jr Bills Backers Day at Bills training camp at St John Fisher. Shown posing for the camera at the end of their shift are Jill, Sara J, Christina, and Gina. Oh, and lest you think cheerleaders are all about cheering and dancing and not into the game itself, after changing into civvies, Christina spent the rest of the afternoon watching practice with a friend so she had an idea of what to expect of the 2010 Buffalo Bills.

As a captain, Christina obviously didn't have to try out to make the squad. However, before the aspiring Jills could try out, the judges needed a demonstration of what the tryout routine was supposed to look like and Christina and Omarlla provided that demonstration as seen here.

Read more about Christina at http://buffalojills.net/article.asp?id=1961059
