Buffalo Pro Cheer Photos of The Week

While we wait for September to begin so we can start on the new Jill of The Week series, we'll take a look at some of the pics from earlier this year, from the 2009-2010 Buffalo Jills and the 2009 Buffalo Bandettes.

From the Jills, we show off a photo from the 1st round of cuts held at the Town Ballroom. Pictured here are Kaitlin and Gabrielle. Kaitlin comes back to the Jills after a year off (she was actually the only 2007 rookie to finish that season without choosing to come back in 2008). She was an Ambassador her rookie year and will be dancing on the sidelines in 2009. Gabrielle is a friend of hers who came with her to try out this year and also made the squad. Back in June, some of the Jills were involved with an appearance at Merritt Estate Winery and Gabby was in the dunking booth...the weather was only in the 60s so she had goosebumps on her goosebumps when she got out...but she kept smiling throughout the experience. Major props to her on that!

From the Bandettes, we have a photo from the Round 1 playoff win against Boston. After all the home Bandits games, Pearl Street Grill and Brewery hosts a postgame party and in addition to most of the players being there, a lot of the Bandettes are there as well. Shown smiling for a photo we see Justina, Erin J, and Amanda. Justina was in her 2nd year on the squad and spent it as a captain after showing some strong leadership in her rookie season. Erin is a former Pro Bowler with the Buffalo Jills who took charge of the Bandettes a few years ago and while she expects a lot of her squad, she can also be "one of the girls" after a long gameday. Amanda was in her 2nd year with the Bandettes and is studying for her Master's degree in physical education and health and may go for another Master's degree in Athletic Administration. She's also a recent NLL Girl of The Week. http://www.nll.com/article.php?id=4019

Pics from the Opening Day of Bills Training Camp

With the Bills in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game on August 9th, they opened training camp practice before any other team and an estimated 5000 fans poured into Pittsford, NY's St John Fisher college to see Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills take the field at the college's Growney Stadium for the 1st day of training camp. The hot and muggy afternoon session found many fans seeking temporary shelter in the air conditioned merchandise tent where it was less muggy, but just as hot as four of the Buffalo Jills were on hand signing autographs and posing for pictures during a portion of the practice. Day 1 featured a visit from the Jills' longest tenured vets, Omarlla and Eileen as well as 5th year vet Katie and 3rd year vet Ayeshia.
The Jills won't be at every session this summer but will be at quite a few of them. You can see a list of what practices to expect them at by visiting the Jills' website at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=31
There are a number of other appearances to watch out for though as a number of new ones have been announced.
This Tuesday, some of the Jills will be downtown outside Coca-Cola Field before the Bisons game collecting funds to help earthquake victims in Italy from 6-8. http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=32
On Saturday, August 1st, if you're not feeling like heading out training camp in Rochester, there's plenty of incentive to stay in Buffalo, or, more exactly, North Tonawanda, as some of the Jills will be at Adventure Speedway from noon-2 racing go-karts. http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=33

Buffalo Jill of The Week Vincenza

We finish up the 2008-09 edition of the Jill of The Week series with another young lady going into her 3rd season on the squad. Of course, the fact that this is the final member of the squad to be covered until we start covering the 2009-2010 Jills with the feature has special significance. Vincenza was the covergirl on the calendar that most sane guys have on their wall right now. Vini has been on the Ambassador Squad since joining the squad but is switching over to the dance squad this season. So, while it'll be disappointing not getting to see her sweet smile at the Tailgate parties put on by 97Rock and 103.3 The Edge, we'll get to see her on the sidelines for 11 games this season, including in Canton, Ohio and in Toronto in addition to home games at the Ralph. Here's a little-known fact...she was actually looking to become a dancer when she first tried out in 2007 but took the invite to become an ambassador when that didn't work out for her. Through a lot of hard work and with the help of some of her friends on the squad like Anna, she got more polished on her dancing and made it this season. Vini is just another story of success on the squad through hard work and dedication. Many girls miss the dance cut but are invited to try out as ambassadors and for some strange reason just give up. We can all be thankful that Vincenza didn't do the same as she's given us two great seasons as an Ambassador and we look forward to many more seasons from her on the sidelines as a dancer. Plus, she got to grow a lot in her time as an ambassador. As she says in her bio, she is actually a shy young lady but I can say that she's not nearly as shy today as she was when she first joined the squad.

More from the 7th Annual Jills Golf Tourney

Head over to 97Rock where you can find some photos from Brian Garman taken at Monday's Golf Tournament. There's even a special guest appearance from CW23's Lydia who accompanied Brian and Heather around the course for a little while.
Also, check out the video that Jickster shot when he showed up. In it, you can see Lisa and Ruby trying their hand at the sport and you can even see Kelly Ann and Christina giving some golfers some pointers...lol http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1424244&spid=21993

7th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament pics

The summer in Western NY hasn't exactly been one to write home about with rain and lower than average temperatures being the norm for the last few months. With that in mind, the 2009 Buffalo Jills put in a lot of effort getting tickets sold for their 7th Annual Golf Tournament and all their hard work paid off with a sold-out Tournament. Apparently as a reward for their efforts, Mother Nature smiled on WNY with a day whose beauty was only exceeded by the beauty of the 37 Jills that were on hand for the event. All throughout the day, golfers got to meet members of the Buffalo Jills while they went through the challenging course at Fox Valley Club in Lancaster, NY. Some of the golfers even put up a little extra money and got one of the young ladies to accompany them around the course the entire day and having Danielle, Laura, Kristin, Kelly Ann, or Nicole L along seemed to make the day more enjoyable for those lucky golfers. Some of the Jills even tried their hand at the sport themselves.

Coming up next for the Jills, they'll be back putting in appearances at Buffalo Bills Training Camp at St John Fisher College in Pittsford, NY when camp opens on Saturday, July 25th. All practices are open to the public but all 4 practices opening weekend and all night practices do require a free ticket. You can get all the details on Buffalo Bills Training Camp and tickets at http://www.buffalobills.com/team/training-camp/index.html Ticket information is at the bottom of the practice schedule page.
Also, if you're looking for something to do after practice on Saturday, several of the Jills will be at Holland Speedway as part of Buffalo Sports Day. They'll be doing more than just signing autographs and posing for pictures as some of them will also be racing one another. Get more info at http://www.hollandspeedway.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=215:buffalo-sports-day-toys-for-tots-day-dodge-owners-day-and-charger-50-lap-roc-qualifier-all-set-for-sat-july-25th&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=50
Finally, it's almost time for the Jills to start cheering on the Bills in game action as they travel to the birthplace on the NFL in Canton, Ohio to cheer the Bills on against the Tennessee Titans in the Hall of Fame Game on August 9th on national TV.

NLL GIRL OF THE WEEK - AMANDA

This week's Girl of the Week, Amanda, resides in Bandit Land, also known as Buffalo, NY. Amanda has been a member of the Bandettes for the past two years and intends on trying out for this upcoming season's squad, anxious to once again experience the thrill that comes from dancing at Bandits home games.

"My favorite part about cheering on the Bandits is being able to perform our versatile routines for the crazy fans," says Amanda. "I have been to countless sporting events, but nothing compares to the energy and atmosphere of Bandits games. The fans are so dedicated and crazy; I get such an adrenaline rush performing out on the field from them.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Ayeshia

Continuing our look at some of the now-3rd year vets, we come to Ayeshia. The first thing most people notice about her is very likely her hair. With all the curls, she really stands out but after you get to know her a little, it's the last thing you think about with her. She says she's sarcastic and funny among other things and around the squad, she's known for her sharp wit more than anything else. She spent her 2nd year on the squad dancing on Nicole's line between Jennifer and Holly and actually didn't start dancing until late, when she was about 11 years old. But as anyone who's seen her the last few years can attest, a late start didn't hurt her any as she loves to perform on gamedays, especially when she gets to dance alongside girls who've become some of her closest friends like Jennifer. A few mid-week Jills tidbits to pass along

First off, we have an appearance coming up this weekend. Factory Outlets of Niagara Falls is having a Grand Re-Opening this weekend and, as a part of Western NY Preview Days, some of the Jills will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Get all the details at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=29
The 7th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament is coming up on Monday and there are still some tickets left. $125 includes: 18 holes, cart, lunch, dinner, entertainment, raffles & prizes! Cash Bar.
1:00pm tee off. Get all the details at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=9
Currently, the forecast looks perfect for the day with partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-70s.
Obviously, besides appearances, the Jills have some cheerleading to do for an NFL team coming up and after last year's training camp in which the Bills disappointed many fans by not asking the Jills to appear, we can once again plan on seeing some of the Jills making appearances at St John Fisher this summer. Get the details on Bills training camp at http://www.buffalobills.com/team/training-camp/index.html
While training camp starts on July 25th, a few of the Jills will be busy with something else. Starting at 5:30 pm, some of the squad will be at Holland Speedway to do a little racing against one another as part of the speedway's Buffalo Sports Day. Last year's event featured 8 of the Jills racing against each other in a couple of races. Get more details on the day at http://www.hollandspeedway.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=88:sched-buffsports&catid=35:scheduleinfo&Itemid=55
Finally, training camp about to open means something else as well....the 2009-2010 Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar will be available within the next few weeks. The cover girl of the calendar has already been announced to the squad, though and the Cover Girl is..... http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1412543&spid=21992

Taste of Buffalo pics

Besides snow, one of the things that Buffalo is best known for is the food. To showcase the restaurants in the Buffalo region, the Taste of Buffalo festival was founded. The 26th Annual Taste of Buffalo took place this weekend in Niagara Square and along Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo. This year's event featured 60 restaurants and 6 wineries all selling samples of their products. Putting in an appearance at the event were members of the 2009 Buffalo Jills, there to sign autographs, pose for pictures, and hand out Bills schedules to the thousands and thousands of fans. On Sunday, fans not only got to reacquaint themselves with veterans Amanda, Angelina, Jackie and Anna, but also got to meet rookies Lindsay and Loren.
Coming up next for the Jills, they'll be working with their Jr Jills next weekend before spending a week running Cheer Elite Camp 2009 at NCCC. The big event to look forward to for the fans, however, is the 7th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament at Fox Valley Country Club in Lancaster, NY on July 20th. There are still tickets available for this event so get all the details on the event and ticket information at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=9

Buffalo Jill of The Week Stephanie B

This week, we take a look at the lovely Stephanie B as our Jill of The Week. Stephanie is going into her 3rd year on the squad after spending the 2008 season dancing on Omarlla's line between Ashley and Rita. This future elementary school teacher (yeah, they didn't look this good when I was growing up, either) spent about 14 years in competitive dance and skipped over JV cheerleading in high school, going right to varsity in the 9th grade. One of the things that a girl making the Jills should expect is the opportunity to make a lot of life-long friendships. That's one of the biggest things Stephanie loves about being on the squad...that, and the uniform, a uniform that Bengals WR Chad OchoCinco gave some major props to a few years ago when he was judging in the NFL Cheerleader Playoffs. You can read more about Stephanie at http://buffalojills.net/roster/stephanie_b.php

Making the Squad-1st Cut

Lydia's series on 2009 Jills tryouts has posted another webisode on the tryout process. This week's edition covers Ambassador Squad 1st cuts. It includes interviews with captains Keisha and Danielle talking about what they're looking for in a Buffalo Jills Ambassador. Lydia also spends some time interviewing 2009 rookies Alyssa and Katy as well as some potentials who will hopefully try again next year. Check it out at http://www.cw23.com/dpp/cw23_girl/wildcard_08/making_the_squad_4
Also, just a few things to remind everyone about. The Taste of Buffalo is this weekend in downtown Buffalo. One of Buffalo's signature events, it features food and drink from 60 restaurants and 6 wineries from Western NY and appearances by the Buffalo Jills. Be sure to bring your camera and an appetite as the Jills will be posing for photos, signing autographs, and handing out Bills schedules while you're trying out all the different foods from the region.
If you haven't put in your vacation time for July 20th, time is growing short as the Jills 7th Annual Golf Tournament takes place that day at Fox Valley Country Club. Get all the details at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=9
Finally, if you or your daughter is looking for a chance to learn cheerleading from the professionals, the Jills are holding a clinic on the 7th at Niagara County Community College from 6-8pm. The clinic will give everyone a taste of what to expect at Cheer Elite Camp 2009, to be held July 19th-23rd. Get all the details on the clinic at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=28 and on Cheer Elite Camp 2009 at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=7

Buffalo Jill of The Week Jill D

This week, we take a look at one of the Jills' newest co-captains as our Jill of The Week. Jill D was named co-captain for her 3rd season on the squad and spent last season dancing on Nicole's line between Kristina and Anna. She considers herself to be silly but for the most part, her strongest quality seems to be how down to earth she is. She definitely has a silly side to her, though. She'll joke with her closest friend on the squad, Ayeshia, that she's getting darker and Ayeshia is getting lighter-skinned. She'll make goofy faces for the camera, though not while in uniform, and she even takes the "Jill the Jill" joke she hears almost daily in stride. But her silly side isn't what got her named co-captain for 2009. She also can come across as pretty mature for her age at times and has 13 years of dance training under her belt, including 7 years in competition and even spent another 2 years near the Nation's Capital studying dance at George Mason University. You can read more about Jill at http://buffalojills.net/roster/jill.php
