2009 Buffalo Bills Training Camp-revisited

Buffalo Bills Training Camp without the Jills seems to lack something in terms of atmosphere and since they moved camp several hours away, I made sure to time my visits to the days the Jills were on hand so I could be sure to get some photos as well as take in the practice.
In 2009, the 1st date I chose to attend was the 1st Saturday of camp. Even during the seasons in which the Jills appeared at camp, they always appeared that day. Omarlla, Eileen, Katie, and Ayeshia all made the trek from Buffalo to Pittsford that day and spent most of their time in the air-conditioned merchandise tent that fans travel through to get to the practice fields. They perused the Bills store some while visiting with fans as they came through.  Many younger fans were especially excited to see the Jills and many got photos taken with them.
The little competition between Omarlla and Eileen kept going as they were never far from each other, ensuring that they'd remain in a tie for most of the day. They spent the second half of their time at camp that day in the VIP tent, visiting with premium seat holders before they finished for the day. However, as luck would have it, I ran into them again before they left and a few young fans asked Eileen for a photo...which wound up putting Eileen in the lead in the competition.

I made a 2nd trek to Training Camp that summer the following week as the Bills were holding a Jr Bills Backers Day at camp that morning. Included were gifts, a VIP breakfast, and an up-close autograph session with a lot of the players as well as a visit from 9 of the Buffalo Jills!
Kelly, Amanda, and Lindsay with some young fans
When I got to practice, Amanda, Lindsay, and Kelly were stationed in front of the merchandise tent where fans of all ages were getting their pictures taken with them, with the children being the msot excited. There were even a few fans who hadn't brought their own cameras so I took a few for them, giving them my card so they could see the photos on this site. After a little while, I went on towards the practice fields where, just past Growney Stadium, I ran into Jennifer, Loren, and Heather near where they had been entertaining some youngsters. After a quick visit with them, I swung down past the VIP tents where Jr Bills Backers were finishing up their breakfasts and getting to see Stephanie B, Ruby, and Nicole L before they left to go to the practice fields with their parents. After a few photos with them, it was off to the practice fields for me as well while Stephanie and Jennifer's groups mingled with some of the fans and posed for photos.

From the Bandettes comes a photo from the February game against the Colorado Mammoth. At 3rd intermission, several of the girls on the squad lined up for a group photo. More and more girls joined in and we wound up with 3 different photos. Shown is the final one of those photos, with everyone but LaToya getting into the photo.

2007 Training Camp and Jills Golf Tourney-revisited

From 2006-2011, I made a habit of making the trek to St John Fisher for the 1st Saturday of Buffalo Bills training camp to get Jills photos to share. In 2007 however, that 1st Saturday coincided with the 40th Buffalo Jills reunion so most of the squad was focused on welcoming the alumnae to the reunion. While the quantity of Jills at camp that day wasn't high, the quality was as captain and reigning Pro Bowl rep Aimee was on hand that day. In addition to posing for photos, greeting fans, and autographing the just-released Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar featuring Jenica on the cover, she also showed off a new jacket from Reebok that was supposed to be available to the public in 2008. She told me her father was hoping to get it sooner but to no avail. Truthfully, I never saw it hit the shelves myself which is a shame.

About 2 weeks later, Fox Valley Country Club in Lancaster was the location for the Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament. Some of the Jills were unavailable for the Tournament that year as Emily, Autumn, Kaitlin B, Melissa, Jill R, Stefanie J, Jenica, Jessica Z,and Eileen were overseas visiting the troops in Afghanistan. The day started out in the clubhouse where the girls posed with the golfers before lunch and some of the girls auctioned themselves off as caddies for the day. Now, I know there have been allegations about what happened in 2012 and 2013 with this but I personally saw nothing out of the ordinary when I was photographing the Golf Tournaments. What happened after the Jills director decided she didn't want the photography and support there anymore is something I have no clue about. Anyway, Katherine, Danielle, and Amanda got to play caddy for the day with different golfers after raising a good sum of money for the squad.

After the golfing got started, I started walking the course, visiting with the Jills around the links, and snapping photos of them with the golfers. I wasn't able to get all of the golfers on camera of course. It's not uncommon for guys to hit the links against the wishes of their wives after all. Some of the Jills even tried their hands at the sport, like Katie C, Kaitlin V, and Stacy!
Katie C giving it a shot
Stacy sending off a shot
Many of the girls sold tickets to family members as well as friends but no family showed more support than Aimee's, who probably bought almost half the raffle tickets sold that day and showed up in personalized jerseys, all with the number 1 and Aimee's name on them. They had them specially made for the Pro Bowl and wore them to the game when Aimee was on the field 6 months before.

Aimee and her fans
As the day wound down, we headed back to the clubhouse for more photos, dinner, and the awarding of the raffle prizes. With buying the most raffle tickets, the fact that Aimee's family came away with more prizes than anyone else came as no surprise to anyone. The prizes were set up as a Chinese auction where people could select what they hoped to win. I sat down with Katie K's bf for dinner and the prize he had the most tickets in for was a prize that Katie wanted him to win more than he did...a suit...lol. He was more interested in some of the autographed Bills memorabilia but making Katie happy was his primary focus, as I'm sure it still is these days.
Brianne and Kelly with one of the golfers

Of course no Jills event would be complete without a dance performance and Aimee, Omarlla, Christina, Nicole, and Kaitlin M brought it!

From the Bandettes comes a photo from the 1st game against the Rochester Knighthawks. Unfortunately, I was running late getting to the arena and was only able to grab this quick photo of members of Kirsten's line before they had to head downstairs to get ready. I definitely heard about it from L.B. soon afterwards...lol. Shown posing for the camera are Danielle, Kirsten, Brianna, Lauren K, and Chrissy.

Pics from the 4th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament-revisited

Continuing our look back series with the 2006 Jills, we come to the 4th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament, This was the 1st of these I've ever attended and wasn't sure what to expect. Basically what I was being asked to do was to roam around the tournament and take photos of the girls with the golfers. Obviously not all the golfers would want their photos taken, either because they had called off work to be there or their wives may not appreciate them spending the day on the golf course with beautiful young women.
Kristen and Diana with Jon and his buddy Joel
In 2006, the Golf Tourney was held at Fox Valley Country Club in Lancaster and began with lunch in the clubhouse. While the golfers were arriving, the Jills posed for some photos and sold raffle tickets for a 50-50 drawing and for Chinese Auction items donated by the Bills and several other businesses around western NY. After lunch, I walked around the course where there were pairs of Jills stationed at several holes to greet golfers and help them with games like the Poker Run, the Closest-to-the-pin contest, and the longest drive contest. While out at a hole with rookies Jessica D and Kaitlin B, one foursome came by with one of the Jills. Lori, back with the squad after a season away, wasn't there just as a Jill. She had also signed up to golf with some work friends and spent the day on the course doing some golfing as well as hitting a few trees.
Lori about to tee off
Jon's group with Katie, Jennifer, Danielle, Jamie F, and Korinne

My next stop had me joining 5 of the Jills at a nearby hole. Katie K, armed with a camera herself, was taking pics of golfers with Danielle M, Jennifer, Korinne, and Jamie F. It wasn't long before a golfer foursome came by, accompanied by the twins, Jenica and Jessica. Shortly after they showed up, one of the golfers asked the Jills to distract the guy in the blue shirt in the group behind them because he was catching up too quickly. Moments later, we saw who he was talking about, Jon Mateczun, the director's husband. Katie then pointed out to the golfer who Jon was and how he was immune to their charms since he was around them so much. My next stop was a hole where golfers would win a car if they got a hole-in-one from Shults Auto Group with Autumn and Rachael on hand. They were jokingly trying to talk the rep from Shults into letting them have the car if no one got a hole-in-one but to no avail. I roamed around a bit after that and even saw the twins trying their hand at golf before finally meeting up with Kelly, Brianne, and Jasmine. Talking to them, I found out that the best golfer on the course wasn't a paying golfer; it was Brianne. At the time, she was going to school, working, and fulfilling her Jills responsibilities in addition to hitting the links 2-3 times a week. When you consider she lived an hour and a half from the stadium, it's quite remarkable that she found the time to do all that.
Brianne could give Natalie Gulbis a run for her money, in beauty and golfing
I made one final stop before heading back to the clubhouse, a visit with rookie Ambassadors Tamara and Megan, who were watching the closest-to-the-pin contest and, shortly after a visit from Valerie and the group she was accompanying for the day, the contest was won. The winner was actually a part of the last group to go through so they offered us a ride back to the clubhouse where everyone was unwinding before dinner. I took a few pictures before grabbing a seat with 103.3 The Edge's Bull, Rich Gaenzler. He had purchased a lot of raffle tickets and while the prizes were being awarded, he was getting a little frustrated at not having won any. However, about halfway through the prizes being awarded, he started winning and he probably took home more raffle prizes than most anyone else, save perhaps Aimee's family. Like all Jills events, a dance performance was a part of the event and the special squad filled with some of the best dancers on the Jills did an outstanding job with a single rookie, Christina R, as a part of it. These days, Christina is the longest tenured vet on the Jills and odds are, the rookies must really look up to her. But all her hard work over the years got her to this point and it started way back in 2006. See all the pics at https://buffaloprocheerbuffalojills.shutterfly.com/pictures/10034

From the Bandettes comes a photo from the Bandits Home Opener vs the Swarm last January. Shown posing for a photo just prior to heading out to perform in 1st intermission are Danielle, Kelsey, Alicia, and Lauren K. The Bandits open the 2014 schedule on December 28th against the Philadelphia Wings at First Niagara Center. This weekend, the new 2014 Bandettes squad is selected and we'll soon find out which of these ladies will be returning as well as who will be joining them.

Rochester Jr Jills perform

New this year was a performance by the Jills and the Jr Jills at Bills Training Camp in Pittsford, NY. Prior to tonight's practice, the Jills were joined by 70 young ladies from Buffalo, Rochester, and Toronto on the field forming the Rochester Jr Jills. See video with interviews and outtakes from the performance at http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Jr-Jills-perform-at-camp/32efd9ec-26e1-4836-90a5-000c5fa1412f#content-tools-link
The Kid's Day game on August 25th will feature the Buffalo Jr Jills joining the pros in a performance prior to the game against the Steelers.

The Jills at 2011 Bills Training Camp Fan appreciation night

Saturday night was Fan Appreciation Night at Bills training camp in Pittsford, NY and the Bills couldn't very well show their appreciation to their fans very well without having some of the Buffalo Jills on hand. After making my way along the Thruway to Rochester, I met up with a buddy, who's actually contributed some photos to the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog in the past, for dinner. We filled up on some great food at Pittsford Pub before heading over to catch the bus to camp.

Jami and Gina
Once we made it to camp, we found Jami and Gina just inside the door to the merchandise tent greeting fans and posing for photos. My buddy headed out to practice while I spent some time getting some photos and talking to the 2 young ladies who will be dancing at the Ralph for the 1st time on August 27th when the Bills play host to the Jaguars in their Kid's Day preseason game. Jami is a rookie with the squad this year while Gina moved to dance this year after having spent last year as the Rookie Ambassador of The Year.

Christina and Omarlla
After spending some time with them, I swung over to the other end of the tent where captains Christina and Omarlla were posing for photos and greeting fans. Neither one of these two ladies need any introduction as Christina has been on the squad for 6 years now and Omarlla is entering her 12th season. However, Omarlla is still having plenty of new experiences even in her 12th year. Last week was the 1st time she was actually out on the golf course for the Jills annual Golf Tourney as she's always been at the Tournament only for the dinnertime shift.
After getting some more photos of all the girls, I went in to catch some practice myself while some of the girls headed out at the end of their shift and others watched the practice themselves.

Next weekend is the 3rd Annual Nathan George Softball Tournament in Dunkirk and features an appearance by members of the Buffalo Jills. Go to http://www.97rock.com/calendar/Default.asp?eventid=614023 for details.
Also, DJ Jickster did make a short appearance at the 9th Annual Jills Golf Tourney on Monday and shot some video which he posted on 97Rock's website.

Finally, the dance team captain pairings have been announced for 2011 with 3 new co-captains. Joining Omarlla will be 5th year vet Lisa while Loren will be co-captaining Valerie's line. It won't be the 1st time they ran a line together as last season, when Omarlla missed a game to visit family out of town, Valerie and Loren teamed up to cover her line for her. Joining Christina as co-captain will be 2nd year vet Natalie, who's well-known for being the prospective rookie who blogged about her experiences trying out for her rookie season.

The Jills at Jr Bills Backers Day at Training Camp

When it comes to training camp, the Bills PR department has fallen behind the rest of the league where their cheerleaders are concerned the last few years. Whereas the Jills were requested at every practice in the past, they've only been at a few practices each year more recently, which deprives the fans of getting to meet the beautiful young ladies who they'll see on the sidelines of Ralph Wilson Stadium this fall. Saturday, however, was one of the days the Jills were in full force. One day for training camp, the Bills host a Jr Bills Backers day, giving the next generation of Bills fans a bit of a VIP treatment at training camp complete with special autograph sessions and appearances by the Buffalo Jills.
Jill, Sara J, Christina, Gina
On hand to greet the next generation of fans at the start of camp were Christina, Jill, Gina, and Sara J. While a lot of little boys and girls got photos and autographs from the girls, a lot more were pretty shy. 10 years from now, those shy little boys will be kicking themselves for not getting a hug from a Pro Bowl cheerleader like Christina or an outstanding gymnast like Jill.

Jaclyn, Stefanie, Jill, Danielle
The Bills cut practice short after some live hitting action to get ready for the Bills' 1st preseason game in Washington. On the field to help with the special autograph session were Jill, who took in a bit of practice with her proud father, Stefanie, Jaclyn, and Danielle. With the shortened practice, the autograph session didn't seem to last that long after Stefanie, Jaclyn, and Danielle got there, so they came up into the seating area at St John Fisher's Growney Stadium to pose for more photos and sign some more autographs.
Amelina (2008)
My day didn't end with camp itself though. Rochester is not only the home for many of the Jills, but a number of Jills alumni as well. Running this site for many years, I've developed friendships with many of the girls I've covered and they usually extend past their careers on the sidelines. In 2008, the Buffalo Jills fans were introduced by a little dancing dynamo by the name of Amelina, the only girl that's actually been shorter on the Jills than 4th year vet Angelina. But they say big things come in small packages and Amelina's dance ability and personality are testaments to that statement. Since she departed the squad, she's become a certified personal fitness trainer and is currently working on starting up her own dance company, recruiting dancers from across Western NY to perform across the region. She'll be launching a website for the dance company soon so stay tuned for news on that.
Next up for the Jills, other than an occasional appearance at Bills camp in Pittsford the next few weeks, some will be appearing at the Napa Auto Parts Grand Opening on Southwestern Blvd in Orchard Park on Saturday. Go to http://www.wnytire.com/thenapastore.htm for details
Also, the Bills start their preseason schedule with a game in Landover, MD at FedEx Field to face off against the Washington Redskins. Their first home game isn't until August 28th but the Jills will join the Bills in Toronto for a game hosting Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts on August 19th. The Toronto Jr Jills program didn't get enough registered to run it but the Jills still have something special cooked up for the game. Think back to last year's Hall of Fame game when the Jills and Titans cheerleaders performed together.
August 20th, some of the Jills will be on hand for the Blondes Vs Brunettes Kickoff party at SoHo on Chippewa Street in Buffalo. Admission is $20 and there will be food, drinks, and raffles as well as appearances by some of the Jills and you can also meet the players for the Sept 18th game. Four of the players also happen to be Jills alumni as well. Check out the info at http://www.bvbbuffalo.com/mission.html

The Jills at the Buffalo Bills Open Practice

On a warm yet windy day in Western NY, the Buffalo Bills held an open mini-camp practice for the fans for the first time since 2004. Diehard fans tailgated before heading into the stadium through Gates 2 and 3 where they were greeted by 22 members of the 43-girl Buffalo Jills squad, who handed out Bills rosters and schedules to the incoming fans as well as posing for photos and signing autographs. The Jills then took to the field to perform for the announced crowd of 4500 of Bills faithful for the first time this season, which allowed several rookies to get the nervousness out if their systems. Judging from their performance and the crowd's reaction, their hard work the past 2 months has been well worth the effort.

Lindsey, Lisa, and Gabrielle

Morgan, Emily, and Danielle

Eileen and Katie
Coming up next for the Jills, there will be plenty of appearances for them before the 8th Annual Jills Golf Tournament at Westwood Country Club in Williamsville on August 2nd.
Included in those appearances is a pair of the girls being in attendance in West Valley, NY when the West Valley and Ellicottville alumni face off in a football game on Saturday, June 12 at 2pm. The ticket money, $5 for adults and $3 for children, goes to support the 2 schools' youth football programs.
Also, on June 18th, some of the Jills will be on hand at the 2nd Annual BBQ and Blues bash being held from 5-9pm at 30 Mississippi Street in Buffalo near Morrisey's Irish Pub and Benchwarmers Sports Bar and Grill. The $20 ticket ($30 the day of the event) goes to support the Gateview-Longview child and family service organization and includes unlimited BBQ and brews. Learn more about the event and the organization at http://www.bbqbluesbash.com/
Also, check out this video from the Jamaica Tourism Board featuring our very own Anna talking about Jamaica and the people she met while there for the Jills Calendar Shoot.

Training Camp schedule released

The Buffalo Bills announced the dates for training camp for the 2010 season today. For the 11th year in a row, practices will take place at St John Fisher College in Pittsford, NY, a suburb of Rochester.
You can find the dates at http://www.buffalobills.com/team/training-camp/practice-schedule.html by scrolling to July and August. The night practices, 8 in all, scheduled from 7-9pm, do require tickets but those will be available for free at a later date. Interestingly, there are no double sessions planned (at least open to the public) and all day practices will take place from 3-5:30pm on the days they're scheduled. Parking for practices has yet to be announced as there is no public parking allowed on campus for the practices. Two years ago, the Bills actually forgot to invite the Jills to appear at camp so in 2009, the Jills took the initiative themselves to appear at all night practices as well as at many other practices as well. Presumably, under the new regime, the Bills won't make a slip-up like 2008 again and we'll see the Jills at most, if not all, the Bills practice sessions at St John Fisher this summer.

Also, DJ Jickster of 97Rock, the #1 1/2 Jills fan, is in Jamaica with the Jills and took a few pics on his iPhone that are up at 97Rock's website. Check out a few pics with Gina, Katie, Courteney, Keisha, Lisa, Valerie, Eileen, and Sara J at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1818697&spid=21993

The Jills at Jr Bills Backers Day at Camp

The 2nd weekend of Buffalo Bills training camp usually has a special feature for the littlest Bills fans. The Jr Bills Backers get some gifts, a VIP breakfast, and an up-close autograph session after practice with a lot of the players. They also get to see more of the Jills on hand than most practices do as the Jills had 9 of their beauties helping with the Jr Bills Backers Day festivities. When they arrived at practice, kids got to meet and get their photos taken with Amanda, Lindsay and Kelly before heading to the VIP tents for their breakfasts where they met Jennifer, Loren and Heather at the one location and Stephanie B, Ruby, and Nicole L at the other.
http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/buffalojills2005/2009/Training%20Camp%200801/
Coming up next for the Jills, they finally get to see some game action as they cheer on the Bills in Canton, Ohio at the Hall of Fame game next Sunday night! They then return home to the Ralph on the 15th for their first game action in front of the home crowd as the Bills play host to the Chicago Bears on Kids Day, which features an appearance by the Jr Jills and Kid's Day festivities prior to the game as well.
Don't forget, there are still plenty of chances to see the Jills at training camp...check out the Jills' schedule at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=31
Also, if you missed out on going to Holland Speedway on July 25th, you didn't miss much since it was rained out...but the Jills racing event wasn't cancelled, only postponed as some of the Jills will be racing one another on August 29th starting at 5:30pm.

Pics from the Opening Day of Bills Training Camp

With the Bills in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game on August 9th, they opened training camp practice before any other team and an estimated 5000 fans poured into Pittsford, NY's St John Fisher college to see Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills take the field at the college's Growney Stadium for the 1st day of training camp. The hot and muggy afternoon session found many fans seeking temporary shelter in the air conditioned merchandise tent where it was less muggy, but just as hot as four of the Buffalo Jills were on hand signing autographs and posing for pictures during a portion of the practice. Day 1 featured a visit from the Jills' longest tenured vets, Omarlla and Eileen as well as 5th year vet Katie and 3rd year vet Ayeshia.
The Jills won't be at every session this summer but will be at quite a few of them. You can see a list of what practices to expect them at by visiting the Jills' website at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=31
There are a number of other appearances to watch out for though as a number of new ones have been announced.
This Tuesday, some of the Jills will be downtown outside Coca-Cola Field before the Bisons game collecting funds to help earthquake victims in Italy from 6-8. http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=32
On Saturday, August 1st, if you're not feeling like heading out training camp in Rochester, there's plenty of incentive to stay in Buffalo, or, more exactly, North Tonawanda, as some of the Jills will be at Adventure Speedway from noon-2 racing go-karts. http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=33

A few mid-week Jills tidbits to pass along

First off, we have an appearance coming up this weekend. Factory Outlets of Niagara Falls is having a Grand Re-Opening this weekend and, as a part of Western NY Preview Days, some of the Jills will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Get all the details at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=29
The 7th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament is coming up on Monday and there are still some tickets left. $125 includes: 18 holes, cart, lunch, dinner, entertainment, raffles & prizes! Cash Bar.
1:00pm tee off. Get all the details at http://buffalojills.net/appearances/details.php?recordID=9
Currently, the forecast looks perfect for the day with partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-70s.
Obviously, besides appearances, the Jills have some cheerleading to do for an NFL team coming up and after last year's training camp in which the Bills disappointed many fans by not asking the Jills to appear, we can once again plan on seeing some of the Jills making appearances at St John Fisher this summer. Get the details on Bills training camp at http://www.buffalobills.com/team/training-camp/index.html
While training camp starts on July 25th, a few of the Jills will be busy with something else. Starting at 5:30 pm, some of the squad will be at Holland Speedway to do a little racing against one another as part of the speedway's Buffalo Sports Day. Last year's event featured 8 of the Jills racing against each other in a couple of races. Get more details on the day at http://www.hollandspeedway.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=88:sched-buffsports&catid=35:scheduleinfo&Itemid=55
Finally, training camp about to open means something else as well....the 2009-2010 Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar will be available within the next few weeks. The cover girl of the calendar has already been announced to the squad, though and the Cover Girl is..... http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1412543&spid=21992

Training Camp pics

The first Saturday of Buffalo Bills training camp was the scene where two items of interest of Jills fans were unveiled to the public. First off, Pro Bowl Jill Aimee showed off a new jacket, in a design that won't be available to the public until 2008. We'll see the Jills sporting the jackets, as well as a few other new items, this fall as a way of giving the public a preview of Reebok's new designs. In addition to the new Jills gear, the much-anticipated 2007-2008 Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar showed up at the Bills store just before the start of the afternoon session. It features 41 of the area's most beautiful young women posing in bikinis and other swimwear in photos taken right in Western New York. Now, visitors to training camp can pick up their own calendars and have them autographed right there.

Bills training camp

Attn Bills and Jills fans:

Starting Thursday, July 26th, the Buffalo Bills start their annual training camp in Pittsford, NY out the outskirts of Rochester and the Jills will be there. This will be your first opportunity this year to combine your love of the Bills with your love of the beautiful women who will be gracing the sidelines of Ralph Wilson Stadium this fall. The Jills will be on hand for pictures and autographs throughout training camp. Of course the big thing to get autographed...will be the Buffalo Jills 2007-2008 Swimsuit Calendar...to be released very soon.

For more information on Bills training camp, visit http://www.buffalobills.com/team/camp.html

The camp schedule (subject to change due to weather) can be found at http://www.buffalobills.com/team/TrainingCamp.jsp
