Buffalo Jill Christina: 8-Year Cheerleader, Lifelong Fan

As someone with a bit of a commitment issue, I seriously can’t fathom doing something consistently for eight years, but Buffalo Bills cheerleader (known as the Buffalo Jills), Christina isn’t quite the commitment-phobe I am. Since the earliest allowable age (18), Christina has served as a beautiful Buffalo Jill as well as a line captain for the past four years.
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, the 5’6″ strawberry blonde with an abundance of energy and personality to match is no stranger to Bills football, in particular HOF’er Jim Kelly. “My favorite player growing up was Jim Kelly mostly because my father enjoyed watching him. Growing up, I thought it was an annual holiday that the Bills made it to Super Bowl just because of how much Buffalo Bills football was played in our household,” Christina says as we talk about the Bills being the only team to win four consecutive AFC Championships and make it to the Super Bowl four consecutive times in the early ’90s. She begins to brag, but with a record of such, I have to admit, it’s brag-worthy. Or at least it used to be.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

We start off our 2013-14 Buffalo Jill of The Week series with 8-year vet Christina. It's hard to believe she's in her 8th season as I still recall when she was a wide-eyed rookie. When I say a wide-eyed rookie that's just a phrase because she was definitely not wide-eyed as she was almost like a vet at times even back then. Over the seasons, she became the face of the Buffalo Jills, even more than Omarlla. The reason for that is her communications degree, which put her at the forefront in past years when the Bills did features on Jills tryouts. She even interned at Channel 4 during the 2008 season, a year after working with Ch 4 anchor Victoria Hong on a feature she was doing.
To say her Jills career has been impressive would be understating the obvious. She's been to Miami Beach twice representing the Jills, first as part of a group following her rookie year in a competition with other NFL Cheerleaders, and then again at the end of the 2009 season in the Pro Bowl the year it was held in Miami. She landed the cover of the Jills 2010-2011 Swimsuit Calendar and when the end of the year has come around, she's been the one putting together end-of-season DVDs for the girls on the squad with videos and photos from the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog as well as photos from Fisher Creative Image Photography. Take a look at more of Christina at https://buffaloprocheerbuffalojills.shutterfly.com/jillsindividualpics/6362 Christina's secondary photo comes from the Vikings preseason game and is a line shot taken midway through the game. Shown posing for the photo are Megan, Shelby H, Melissa, Hannah, Christina, Taylor, Myesha, and Kristina.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

This week, we take a look at 7th year vet Christina as our Buffalo Jill of The Week. Christina is a girl I could tell was on the fast track to a great career as a Jill early in her 1st season. In her rookie year, the Jills had a small select dance squad of 6 dancers who would perform at all the events and Christina was the lone rookie on that squad. Following the season, she joined several other Jills in Miami Beach competing against several other squads in a Beauties on The Beach competition. In her 3rd season on the squad, she was named co-captain and was promoted to captain in the middle of the 2009 season. That was only the start though as she soon became the voice of the Jills in regards to the media, working with BuffaloBills.com in their features on Jills tryouts each year and even working with WIVB Anchor Victoria Hong on a feature she was doing that involved the reporter in becoming a Jill for a day. None of that should be a surprise at all with her degree in Communications which included an internship at WIVB while she was still in school. Regarding Jills accomplishments though, she represented the Jills in the Pro Bowl following the 2009 season, the year it was held in Miami and got the ultimate honor in 2011 as she got the cover of the 2011-12 Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar. You can read more about Christina at http://buffalojills.com/profile.php?PID=77 Christina's secondary photo comes from the Kid's Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and features a line shot of Christina's line. From left to right are Amanda, Lindsey C, Katie B, Loren, Alyssa K, Christina, Jayanti, Myesha, and Kelly.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

Finishing up the 2011-12 Buffalo Jill of The Week series, we look at the covergirl of the most recent Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar with now 7th year veteran Christina. Made a captain midway through the 2009 season after getting made a co-captain the year before, Christina is perhaps the most vocal voice of the Buffalo Jills these days. With her communications degree, she's been the one the Bills have gone to the last few years when it came to putting together video features on Jills tryouts and she's also put together end-of-season DVDs for her squadmates filled with videos and photos of their experiences together as Jills that season. Following her 2009 season, Christina represented the Jills in the Pro Bowl. In that season, the Pro Bowl was held in Miami, where Christina finished up her rookie season in a Beauties On The Beach competition in which she and several of her squadmates competed against other NFL Cheerleaders and did pretty well, especially in beach volleyball. She and Valerie are the longest-tenured vets on the squad except for Omarlla and I'd be surprised to see either of them retire anytime soon. Christina's great status with the squad, beyond the fact that she's a captain, is something that I saw would happen even in her rookie season. In 2006, there was a small unit of dancers that performed at each Jills event and Christina was the lone rookie in that unit. You can read more about Christina at http://buffalojills.com/profile.php?PID=9 Christina's secondary photo is a line shot taken at the Lions preseason game last September. Shown posing just before heading out for the game are Beth, Amanda V, Jenny, Natalie, Gina, Christina, Jami, and Nicole.

Christina on Winging It!

On Tuesday, 6th year vet and captain Christina of the Buffalo Jills appeared on National Television Show Anderson Cooper, a new talk show this year whose focus that day was on, among others, Paula Abdul. Christina once met Paula several years ago and got the chance to meet her again on the show. Then, she appeared on Winging It, on CW23 in Buffalo, with a recap of what happened and also talked about this Sunday's big pregame performance.

Covergirls announced

Today, the Jills held a private party where the girls celebrated the fact that all their hard work in practice was about to be put on the field and find out who made the cover. They shot a video of the announcement and through it, we find out that Jaclyn and Christina will be on the front and back covers of the 2011-2012 Jills Calendar.

Congrats to Jaclyn and Christina!

Jills 2011-2012 calendar already in the works!

While the Buffalo Jills will be holding tryouts for the 2011 squad starting April 10, work has already begun on the Jills 2011-2012 Calendar. With Jills official photographers FCI, Jills director Stephanie M took dance captains Omarlla and Christina to Kissing Bridge Ski Resort in Western NY to get some photos taken for the calendar. In addition to the photos, this video was taken as well.

Next Sunday, March 27th, see members of the Buffalo Jills at the Buffalo Men's Show taking place at Seneca Niagara Casino as they'll be there taking photos, signing autographs, and putting on a spectacular dance performance. See all the info on tickets as well as who all will be in appearance including Ruben Brown, Jay McKee, and Joe Ferguson at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=2085661
Jills tryouts start on April 10th at the Buffalo Bills Fieldhouse at 1pm with the Open Workshop for all interested dancers and ambassadors. This event is closed to the public and all attendees are asked to arrive early for registration.
1st cuts, which will be open to the public, will take place at the Fieldhouse on April 17th at 1pm. Get all the details on Jills tryouts at http://buffalojills.net/Article.asp?id=2098800

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

This week, we take a look at the Jills' newest dance captain as our Jill of The Week. Christina got named as a co-captain in 2008 and took over her own line midway through the 2009 season when her captain unexpectedly resigned. She obviously impressed her squadmates with her performance as a captain as she got named to go to the Pro Bowl after the season. Performing between Amanda V and Morgan on the line, Christina is 1 of 3 5th-year vets on the squad with Valerie and Stefanie. Now, I'm not saying she plans to stick around for another 5 years or more, but Valerie has told me that she and Christina joke about being the next Omarlla and Eileen, who have each been on the squad for 11 seasons now. In any event, we definitely hope to have her around for quite a while longer as she's a great dancer and, more than that, sets a great example for the less experienced girls on the squad. Christina's secondary photo this week is from Jr Bills Backers Day at Bills training camp at St John Fisher. Shown posing for the camera at the end of their shift are Jill, Sara J, Christina, and Gina. Oh, and lest you think cheerleaders are all about cheering and dancing and not into the game itself, after changing into civvies, Christina spent the rest of the afternoon watching practice with a friend so she had an idea of what to expect of the 2010 Buffalo Bills.

As a captain, Christina obviously didn't have to try out to make the squad. However, before the aspiring Jills could try out, the judges needed a demonstration of what the tryout routine was supposed to look like and Christina and Omarlla provided that demonstration as seen here.

Blondes Vs Brunettes Kickoff Party

Last year, a powderpuff football game was organized by an organization called Blondes Vs Brunettes. The game obviously featured blondes and brunettes facing off against each other and the purpose was more than just about having fun playing football, although plenty of that happened as well. The big goal behind the Blondes Vs Brunettes games, which happen all over the United States, is to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association and last year's events raised a total of $25,000 for the Alzheimer's Association of Western NY. The game itself was a 12-12 tie with dozens of beautiful players. Obviously we're focused on the Jills here and while several Jills were in attendance to perform and sell raffle tickets, there were a few Jills alumni suited up to play as well in Jills director Stephanie M and Jills alumnus Danielle H (1998-2002). Danielle even took the brunette MVP award for the game.
That was last year, though and bigger things are projected for this year's game, which will feature 6 Jills alumni in all. Friday night, SoHo on Chippewa hosted the Blondes Vs Brunettes kickoff party, which had a outstanding turnout to say the least. Four of the Jills alumni who will be playing in the game were in attendance with many of their teammates as well as a trio of current Jills who were on hand to help with raffles. In addition to selling raffle tickets, Lindsay, Christina, and Taryn spent time talking to and posing for pictures with fans and players. Photos from the event, with a heavy Jills focus, can be found at http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/buffalojills2005/2010/BVB%20Kickoff/
The game is being played on September 18th at Sweet Home High School with kickoff at 2pm with an after party at Shenanigans on Niagara Falls Blvd in Amherst. Get all the details and donate $10 or more for a ticket to the game at http://www.bvbbuffalo.com/index.html
Also, check back there and at http://www.fishercreativeimage.com/ for more photos from last night. Jeff and Snjezana Fisher, who spent several years as the Jills' official photographers, are the official photographers for the Buffalo chapter of Blondes Vs Brunettes and took a lot of great photos last night.
As far as those Jills alumni, here's the roster
Blondes
  • Kimberly Z (1996-98/99)...not sure on her final year
  • Amanda F (2001-03) and Bandettes (2006-07)
  • Dana (2008)
Brunettes
  • Danielle H (1998-2002)
  • Jenn C (1998-2004)
  • Francine (2000-04)
As far as the Jills, their next big appearance is their first home game. There are still tickets available at this writing for the 2010 Kid's Day game at Ralph Wilson Stadium Saturday at 6:30 in a preseason game that pits the Bills against former Bill Terrell Owens and Jills fan Chad Ochocinc0 (he was very complementary in his judging of Omarlla and Aimee at the 2006 NFL Cheerleader Playoffs). Show up early for Kid's Day festivities going on in front of the stadium from 3-6pm and meet several of the 2010 Buffalo Jills Ambassadors. The dancers will be pretty busy during tailgating time doing a last minute rehearsal with the Jr Jills cheerleaders who will be performing with them in pregame.

Jills Awards

With Jills tryouts coming up, we shouldn't forget about the accomplishments of the 2009 squad. The Jills just had their end of season banquet and, as is custom, handed out numerous awards.

Captain of the year: Omarlla
Outstanding Ambassador Jill: Keisha
Rookie of the year: Kelly (dance) & Alyssa (Ambassador)
Veteran of the year: Lisa
Miss Congeniality: Stefanie & Courteney
Highest Calendar sales: Laura w/ a close 2nd by Katy
Perfect attendance: Katie K., Jennifer & Kelly
Most Appearances: Alyssa & Keisha
Jr Jills Captain: Jennifer (and you probably thought I was making all that up in her Jill Of The Week feature, didn't you?)

The last couple of years, they've also named their captains and co-captains at this time. Well, captains have been named but the ambassador squad was the only one with a co-captain named. Dance co-captains will be named after practices get going for the 2010 squad. This is pretty similar to how they did it prior to the 2008 squad. Without further ado though, the captains for the 2010 Buffalo Jills will be Omarlla, Eileen, Christina, and Keisha. Obviously Omarlla and Eileen need no introduction to anyone as they've both been with the squad since 2000, going into their 11th season as Jills. Christina making captain is no surprise as she was named co-captain her 3rd season in 2008 and finished this past season in Miami representing the squad in the Pro Bowl.  There's also the fact that she, like Keisha with the Ambassador Squad, was an acting captain most of the season with the departures of Nicole and Danielle. Keisha, winning the Outstanding Ambassador award and always going the extra distance for her squadmates, was an easy choice for Ambassador Squad captain as well. Joining Keisha in heading up the Ambassador Squad will be 4th year vet Amanda. Detail-oriented, experience in management, and a plethora of ideas to bring to the squad are just some of the reasons why this blonde bombshell was a great choice for the role.

This Saturday, make sure to congratulate all the award winners and captains at the Buffalo Jills Adult Comedy Show. It takes place at Club Paradise in Blasdell with the doors opening at 7pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Also, some of them will be at Eastern Hills Mall Saturday late morning for the Kaleida Health Women's -Day of Dance event from 11-noon.

After all that, you have one final chance to see many of the 2009 Jills before tryouts get going...at the 2010 Buffalo Men's Show. Anyone who was there in 2008 knows what a fun event it was. This year's event promises to be bigger, taking place at Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel. Among the celebrities in attendance, we'll have former Bills greats Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, Ted Washington, and Ruben Brown as well as current greats Paul Posluzsny and Fred Jackson as well as Mark Steenhuis from the Bandits. Add former Sabre Mike Peca and Dudley Hart from the PGA to the mix, and the 2008 Men's Show should pale in comparison. See the whole list at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1706180&spid=21992

Christina to the Pro Bowl!

It's that time of year again, when NFL Cheerleaders select their Pro Bowl representatives, this year sending their representatives to Miami for the January 31st AFC-NFC All-Star game. This year's selection should be no surprise to anyone as it's 4th year vet and captain Christina. She started off her career as a Jill as the only rookie member of the Events Dance Team and also won the 2006 Rookie of The Year. In 2008, she was named a co-captain for Omarlla's line and moved over to Nicole's line this season. However, after Nicole resigned suddenly, Christina took over handling the captain duties on her own and doing a great job with it, obviously. This won't be Christina's 1st trip to Miami at the end of January. Three years ago, the Super Bowl was held there just like this year and a group of NFL Cheer squads sent a half-dozen girls each to compete in a Beauties on The Beach competition that the Jills, including Christina, did pretty well in.

Congratulations to Christina on a well-deserved honor!

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

For a 3rd straight week, we take a look at one of the blonde beauties on the squad with 4th year co-captain Christina. This communications major was on the fast track almost as soon as she tried out. She was the 2006 Jills rookie of the year and was the sole rookie on that season's Events Dance Squad, joining 2 captains, 2 co-captains, and a 2nd year vet in that group. Last season was her 1st as a co-captain and rather than being overwhelmed with the added responsibility, she loved the challenge it gave her. One of the biggest things being a Jill has given Christina was teaching her how to be an effective public speaker, a skill that will serve her well when she steps behind the anchor desk on the local news one of these days. Maybe she'll end up working alongside Victoria Hong, a longtime anchor who became a Buffalo Jill for a day a few years ago with Christina coaching her along the way. http://buffaloprocheer.blogspot.com/2007/05/buffalo-jill-victoria-hong.html You can read more about Christina at http://buffalojills.net/roster/christina.php

Jills on CNN/SI.com!

Last week, the Jills got some national notice when Maxim.com showed off some of the Jills on their site in photos taken by Fisher Creative Image Photography in their work on the new 2009-10 Buffalo Jills Swimsuit Calendar!
Well, now it's CNN/SI's turn to start paying homage to the ladies of the gridiron and in their first set of the season, the Jills got 7 shots up with a group shot of Omarlla, Christina, and Kelly as well as individuals of Christina, Jill, Anna, Gabrielle, and Murissa. Check it out at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0908/nfl.preseason.cheerleaders/content.36.html

Buffalo Jills Captains for 2009-2010 announced!

Every spring, while we anticipate Jills tryouts and get ready to see a lot of new beautiful faces on the squad, we also have to come to the realization that not everyone from the previous year will be returning. Thankfully, last year's departures were all by choice and we can only hope that holds true again this year as well. On that note though, there are a few new faces in among the captains for the upcoming season. Two of the Jills' longtime captains, both with the squad since 2002, will be moving on. For the last several years, no captain has been better at getting group photos for her line than Jamie, a Pro Bowler following the 2004 season. She won't be a stranger though as she already assured me she'll still be showing up to events for a long time to come. The Ambassador Squad has thrived under Kelly's leadership, who's been their captain since 2004. She was such a strong leader, she was running the group without a co-captain for the latter half of 2006 and all of 2007. Both of these ladies will definitely be missed.
With the departure of captains, however, the opportunity for others to rise into their places presents itself and the Jills now have 2 new captains and 2 new co-captains. Katie K has been with the Jills since 2005, the last remaining member of that rookie class and is entering her 3rd year as a co-captain. She's shifted around on lines each of her years in the role. She started out as Aimee's co-captain in 2007 before moving to Nicole's line this past season. This year, she moves over to Omarlla's line, who's been with the Jills since 2000 and hopefully sticking around for several more years. Katie's move to Omarlla's line slides last year's newest co-captain over to Nicole's line. Christina has been with the squad since 2006 and has had a promising career on the squad almost from the start. In 2006, the Jills events featured dance routines performed by a select group, and Christina was the only rookie from that group. Nicole enters her 2nd season as a captain after spending the previous year as a co-captain. In 2006, she landed the cover of the Jills swimsuit calendar and then was named to the Pro Bowl the following year.
The big changes are really happening on the other lines. After serving as Jamie's co-captain this past year after 2 years with Omarlla, 10th year vet and 2005-06 Pro Bowler Eileen gets her own line. Like Omarlla, Eileen just keeps geeting better every season and we can only hope she continues on like her rookie squadmate for many years to come. Eileen's promotion opens up a spot for a co-captain and chosen for that role will be Jill D. Going into her 3rd season on the squad, Jill's warm and loving personality makes her a great fit with Eileen and we should expect great things for years to come.
The Ambassador Squad's new captain should come as no surprise. 2006 rookie Danielle proved her mettle this season as a co-captain in a big way as she ran things on gamedays while Kelly did her part at practices and meetings. Danielle is one of the biggest reasons the 2008 Buffalo Jills squad has been so close-knit and we expect that to continue in 2009. Another 2007 rookie will be getting the call as Danielle's co-captain as Keisha has been named to the position.  Keisha has been outgoing in an extraordinary way in supporting her squadmates. When Omarlla was on her own at a Rhino's appearance this past season, Keisha came along to keep her company and she even made sure that Jessica wasn't alone in Hawaii earlier this month. With that kind of dedication to her squadmates, Keisha should be an excellent fit as co-captain.
Obviously, as captains and co-captains, these 8 young women will be leading the 2009-2010 Jills through their paces all season long but it goes beyond that. They also have proven themselves enough that they don't need to go through the regular tryout process themselves. During the Open Workshop (closed to the public), they'll be on hand to answer questions and help demonstrate routines to prospective Buffalo Jills. During the tryouts themselves, they'll be helping out with answering questions and giving moral support to veterans and rookies alike. The tryouts as well will be closed to the public with one exception. 1st cuts for the dance squad and 2nd cuts for the Ambassador Squad will be held at the Town Ballroom on Sunday, April 5th from 1pm until about 4pm. Admission is $5 and this will be the public's chance to get a first hand look at what goes into the making of the Buffalo Jills Squad. Obviously, whether you're attending to support a friend or family member or just going to see tryouts, we ask that you show all the participants proper respect as their performances require a lot of concentration on the dancers' parts.
Stay tuned to http://www.buffalojills.net/audition.html 97Rock, 103.3 The Edge, Mix 104.1, CW23 and the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog for further news on Jills tryouts.

Chiefs game at Rhino's

With the recent 4-game losing streak that the Bills went on, attendance at the 103.3 The Edge Away game party at Rhino's waned a bit this week and the regulars who missed the event are probably kicking themselves after the Bills woke up and clobbered their old AFL rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 54-31. The crowd was louder at Rhino's for this game than it had been the previous 2 away games with only about half the people. Of course 10 scores by the Bills may have had something to do with that. Well, not to kick someone when they're down, but there are some other reasons that the regulars who missed should be kicking themselves. Part of the promotion includes a squares contest in which winners take home prizes like t-shirts and the like for having the correct score at the end of a quarter. Well, this week, there were a few added bonuses. At the end of the first half, one lucky person walked around with a brand new snowboard from Yuengling, one of the sponsors of the away game parties. The final score even got a grill. And of course, with 10 Bills scores in the game (6 TDs and 4 FGs), there were increased chances to sign up for the 42" LCD TV that is to be won at the end of the season.

Another reason for a person to kick himself for missing the party...the Buffalo Jills were, as usual, on hand for the 1st half of the game. 3rd year vet and 1st year co-captain Christina made her first appearance at Rhino's this season and rookie Ambassador Brandi made her 2nd appearance at Rhino's this season.
Next up, you can meet some of the Jills as part of Operation Rock Out Hunger as a few of them will be appearing with 97Rock's DJ Jickster at Rosa's in Cheektowaga as he collects for the Food Bank of Western NY.
Then, if anyone is truly dedicated on getting an early jump on their Black Friday shopping, the place to be is the Fashion Outlets of Niagara from 10pm to midnight on Thanksgiving night. The stores don't open until midnight but Jickster and the Jills will be hosting a tailgate party beforehand.
Saturday night, the focus turns to the Bandettes for an evening as they make their first public appearance as the new 2009 squad. The World's Largest Disco is the place to be if you want to meet 8 of last year's squad returning along with a pair of returnees from the past as well as 5 new rookies. Tickets are sold out for this Buffalo Convention Center event but they can be had from scalpers and places such as eBay and StubHub.
Sunday, the Buffalo Jills return to the Ralph for a post-Thanksgiving matchup between the Bills and the San Francisco 49ers. Meet members of the Ambassador Squad inside the Fieldhouse and at tailgate parties thrown by 97Rock and 103.3 The Edge before watching the dancers on the field and on the sidelines throughout the game cheering on the Bills and showing why the Jills dance routines are almong the hottest in the NFL.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

This week, we take a look at the Jills' newest co-captain. Christina is in her 3rd season with the squad and has been on the fast track to stardom right from the start. Besides being made a co-captain in her 3rd season, she was the 2006 rookie of the year and was placed on the squad's events dance crew within a few months after making the squad, first performing at the 4th Annual Buffalo Jills Golf Tournament. The Jills events dance crew is a group of dancers who are selected to perform dance routines at the big Jills events, like the recent Calendar Shoot Fundraiser. To finish up her rookie season, she joined Autumn, Natale, Jamie F, Jamie R, and Valerie in South Beach for a Beauties on the Beach competition against squads from 7 other teams. Word is, they did pretty well and kicked some butt in beach volleyball. This bubbly blonde is Omarlla's co-captain this year and can regularly be seen between Alecia and Murissa on gamedays. You can read more about Christina at http://www.buffalojills.net/bios/christina.html

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina

Christina is on a fast track to stardom in the pro cheerleading ranks. She was the 2006 Jills Rookie of the Year and was the only rookie on a select group of Jills who put on dance performances at all the big Jills events. She finished off the season in Miami Beach competing, alongside some of her squadmates, in a competition with other squads called the Beauties on The Beach competition. In 2007, she performed on Omarlla's line between rookies Stephanie and Jessica L and grabbed the attention of CNN/SI photographers in the preseason http://buffaloprocheer.blogspot.com/2007/08/buffalo-jills-on-cnnsicom.htmlYou can read more about 2008 co-captain Christina at

Buffalo Jill of The Week Christina R

Christina R, going into her second season, is our current Jill of The Week and she's a girl who's almost never without a smile. She's been dancing for 17 of her nearly 20 years and hopes to one day open up her own dance studio...when she has the free time after her job of hopefully taking over on the Today Show or Good Morning America. You can read more about Christina in the files section of the webgroup (registration required) and check out her hot swimsuit photos taken by the Jills' Official Photographers at http://www.fishercreativeimage.com/Jills/individual.html#christinar
