2 Months til Jills Tryouts!!

If you're a young lady who'll be at least 18 by March 30th and are looking to continue dancing and/or cheering on a bigger stage than your dance studio recitals or your high school and college sidelines, then we might have exactly what you're looking for.

Or maybe you don't have dance or cheer experience or you don't have the time to put into dance practice twice a week but still want to be part of a world-class organization like a pro cheerleading squad. The Jills Ambassador Squad may just be up your alley.

The Buffalo Jills are holding open auditions starting on March 30th at Carol Joy's Fusion Dance Studio on Kenmore Ave in Buffalo. On that day, aspiring dancers will learn a routine that they will have to perform at the next session of tryouts and everyone, dancers and ambassadors alike, will get a basic overview of what to expect, not only of tryouts but of the full Jills experience. You'll learn what you'll be expected to do but also what you can expect to get as a Jill. While it's pretty well-known that Jills don't get paid for gamedays, it might not be as well known about how they do make out pretty well in pay for some appearances as well as various perks and discounts from many of the Jills' sponsors.

For more information, be sure to visit http://buffalojills.net/audition.html

Please keep in mind tryouts are not open for the public to watch. These young ladies will have a lot to take in and learn in order to make the squad and distractions would only hurt them.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Autumn

This week, we take a look at another of the girls who took 2 trips to the Middle East in 2007 with Autumn. It's rather fitting she was happy to make both of those trips as she reports her Papa was a member of the Marine Corps at one point in time. Of course the opportunity to travel wasn't exactly a deterrent either because as much as she loves Buffalo, she enjoys the new experiences she gets when she travels. As a Jill, she's gotten to meet everyone from athletes like Baby Joe Mesi to soldiers in the military to everyday fans to athletes from the Challengers Sports League and if you asked her what she enjoyed the most, odds are she couldn't decide. This ravishing redhead is in her 3rd season on the Jills and anchored one end of Aimee's line next to Ayeshia on gamedays. In total, she's spent 16 seasons as a cheerleader on some level so far in addition to a couple seasons as a varsity cheerleading coach. Titans game pics

It was a historic night at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY for the Buffalo Bandits for a couple of reasons. The first of those reasons was longtime fan favorite Johnny Tavares passing Gary Gait for the NLL all-time record in goals scored. He went into the game needing 3 to tie and 4 to break the record and he got goal #597 near the end of the 3rd quarter, sending the crowd into a frenzy. However, unlike the game in 2006 in which Tavares took the top spot for points scored (goals and assists), the Bandits came out on top in a 17-13 win over the visiting New York Titans.

The other historical moment was the debut of another rookie Bandette. Justina was in Hawaii during the Opener against Rochester and she stepped right in on Erin Y's line next to Beth as the full Bandettes squad performed routines on the field (including one choreographed by ex-Bandette Danielle) and in the tunnel during the game and in celebration of all the goals scored in the 17 goal onslaught on the visiting Titans.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Stefanie

Stefanie spent gamedays on Jamie's line between Jamie and Nicole but that won't be the biggest thing she'll remember about 2007 by any means. It was her 2nd year on the squad and the biggest thing that happened for her were not 1, but 2, trips to the Middle East. Before even trying out to make the squad for a second straight season, she was part of a group that visited troops in Kuwait and Iraq. Despite a couple of problems on that trip (lost her equipment bag for a few days and hit herself on the head with a gun), she signed up for a 2nd trip. This trip took her and some of her squadmates to Afghanistan and, happily, there were no reported mishaps. She's been cheering for 11 years and it's hard to imagine her stopping anytime soon as she enjoys the opportunities she's gotten as a member of the Buffalo Jills so far. The Jills help Marshawn Lynch prove Willis McGahee wrong

Months before being traded away from Buffalo, Willis McGahee made several harsh comments about the city of Buffalo. This included potshots at the fans saying that the team would be better off moving to Toronto. He also trashed the city's nightlife, restaurants, and women. Marshawn Lynch has been the anti-Willis since being drafted. He's met fans at Duff's of Orchard Park the day before a game, moved his family into the area, and frequented the various local eateries and even some of the chain restaurants that McGahee trashed in his comments.
Kenny Mayne of ESPN met with Marshawn to see how well he liked the area as opposed to McGahee's opinions as part of a "Mayne Event" segment that is now featured on YouTube.

During the segment, Marshawn is shown at Applebees as well as at Dave and Busters enjoying himself. And, to help demonstrate how wrong Willis was about the women, 2 stunningly beautiful Buffalo Jills, Brianne and Angelina, were there having fun at Dave and Buster's with Marshawn.

Also, there's an appearance coming up for the Jills as a few of them will be at Eastern Hills Mall on Sunday, January 26th for the Here's To Your Health! health fair. http://www.shopeasternhills.com/ sponsored by 104.1 WHTT-FM

Finally, it's not too early to be thinking about tryouts as the Jills are beginning the audition process on March 30th at Carol Joy's Fusion Dance Studio. Visit http://buffalojills.net/audition.html for full details.

Knighthawks Game pics

The Buffalo Bandits' run to the 2008 Champions Cup hit a roadblock in the form of the defending champion Rochester Knighthawks in their home opener Friday night. Sloppy play in goal, on offense and on defense early in the game hurt the team's chances for a win enough that even a late 5-2 surge in the 4th quarter couldn't earn them a win.

While the Bandits game was marred by sloppy play, the Bandettes were anything but sloppy as veterans, rookies, and former Bandettes meshed flawlessly in their dance routines after only 2 months of practicing together. Check out these pics and videos of the 2008 Bandettes' first game appearance at http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/bandettes/2008/Knighthawks/

Buffalo Jill of The Week Angelina

We continue our look at the Jills rookies this week with Angelina. This former Division I college cheerleader spent the past season dancing on Jamie's line between Nicole and Jessica Z and one has to think she plans to return in 2008. The reason being is that it gives her a greater opportunity to meet new people, something this extroverted young lady loves to do. She also has the fear of missing out on getting to soak in all the moments of being a Jill. If she's really serious about that, we could hopefully see her sticking around for as long as vets Omarlla and Eileen as they still deal with new experiences after 8 seasons on the squad. Her personality helps her make a lot of friends and even back in May at the Congratulatory Party, she had a lot of fans there to support her. 2 ex-Jills cheering in Rochester this spring

The Rochester Knightingales dance squad once again boasts 2 former Jills. This year, Dianna (2003-04) returns for her second year on the squad while Allison (2002-2005) is a rookie in Rochester this season.

While we're not going to cover the entire squad (this site is meant for Buffalo Pro Cheerleaders), I'd like to give ex-Jills some props as well in their dancing, even if it is for opposing teams. So if anyone makes it to a Rochester Knighthawks game or Knightingales appearance, any pics of Allison and Dianna they could share would be welcomed.

Buffalo Jill of The Week Jessica L

2007 marked Jessica L's first year on the squad and she was actually one of the first rookies that we, as fans, became aware of as she was one of the hopefuls interviewed for a Bills focus video during tryouts (about 1:30 into the video). In the video, she remarks she was feeling pretty confident about her chances while waiting for the results and one has to think that the confidence showed in the dancing ability she demonstrated to the judges. Obviously, her confidence was not misplaced as she spent the season dancing on Omarlla's line between Omarlla and Christina.

When a young lady first joins up with a professional cheerleading squad, she might expect a lot of hard work as well as fun and friendships. Something that most of the Jills have discovered after spending some time on the squad is that it helps them grow as people. Jessica was one of those who discovered that pretty quickly as the experience of becoming a Buffalo Jill opened up a lot of doors for her and helped her become a more well-rounded person. You can check out the video she appeared in in the site archives at http://buffaloprocheer.blogspot.com/2007/03/another-jills-tryout-video.html and learn a little more about Jessica at http://buffalojills.net/bios/jessical.html
