Amanda P with her poster at the 2006 FHM Release Party
This week, we take a look back at a Jills alum who got more fame after she left the squad than she did on it. Amanda P spent 3 seasons flashing her incredible smile on the sidelines of Ralph Wilson Stadium in a career that spanned from 2005-2007. She's actually one of those girls who missed the cut, for some unknown reason, her first time trying out in 2004. Thankfully, she didn't let that disappointment dissuade her from trying again. In her 2nd season on the squad, she got a spot in FHM's US edition as part of a Sexiest NFL Cheerleader competition that she narrowly came in 2nd place in, only because none of FHM's photos included that smile of hers. After leaving the squad, she started working on becoming more famous as an actress or model. To do that, in 2010, she joined a Simon Cowell (the manager who sent the Spice Girls to stardom and created American Idol) project called "If I Can Dream." The project was basically a reality show in which 5 aspiring stars lived in a house in Los Angeles and were given training and other help in their chosen careers. She wound up leaving the project citing a lack of freedom as her reason but she also didn't get as much help auditioning for acting jobs as she wanted either.

From the Bandettes comes a photo from last year's Open Practice held at First Niagara Center. The Bandettes put on a performance for the fans during a break in practice and then started greeting fans and posing for photos in the stands and concourses. Shown posing for a photo are Lauren K, Lauren B, Carissa, Ashley, Stephanie G, Chrissy, Amanda, Melissa, and Jessica. Stephanie G and Melissa have already said they won't be back but everyone else...we'll have to see after tryouts happen the weekend of October 6th and 7th.
Laura, Courteney, and Jacki talk about how to approach women and answer a girl's question about what things she should put in her online dating profile.
Obviously the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog isn't about selling things. It's more about supporting the Jills and Bandettes through publicity and some photography. When a girl retires from the squad, they usually also retire from the spotlight and while I may personally know what some alumni are up to, we respect their privacy and don't advertise it. However, there are some who still love the spotlight and the Blog will always support them in their endeavors in the spotlight. We've had some girls move on to cheer elsewhere like Hayley (2005) with the Cavaliers, Tawnya (2000-02) with the Eagles, and Sarita (2004) with the Ravens and now the Redskins. There's also many who seek a different spotlight like Ashlee (2005) and Aimee L (2003) in the local singing scene while Theresa (1998-2002) and Amanda P (2005-07) are going the acting route.
Amanda, as everyone should know, left the If I Can Dream project in early May citing a too restrictive environment but still has hopes of making it in Hollywood. Something that viewers of If I Can Dream saw was her jewelry making hobby and since returning home, she's been working on turning that hobby into something that can help her return to Hollywood. Today she launched her website at http://amandaphillipscollection.com/ where people can take a look at her designs and even order some jewelry for themselves or family members or significant others.
It appears If I Can Dream's house rules have been too confining and restrictive for Amanda to handle and she'll be leaving the house tonight. Former Buffalo Jill Amanda P (2005-07) has been out in Hollywood as a part of a Simon Fuller-Hulu joint venture working on becoming an actress. While she's not giving up her dreams of stardom and plans to return to Hollywood after some time back home, she obviously won't have the resources of Simon Fuller to help her out. That being said, she will still be getting some help from the If I Can Dream production team and her housemates when she gets back out there and will be keeping her Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace fan pages as well.
While she leaves tonight, she does have one last Twitter session scheduled at 4pm PT/7 ET a few hours before her flight home. So be sure to tune in at http://www.ificandream.com/#/justwatch and tweet your support in to @amanda_phill making sure to put #iicdhouse in your tweets during the Twitter session.
Tryouts finished up and the new squad was announced last week with practices for the new squad starting up next week. However, photos have still been going up from 1st cuts at 97Rock from Jills Official Photographer Brian Garman. Now you can see all the photos at http://97rock.com//sectional.asp?id=37097 Included are photos of vets and rookies alike as well as a few photos of some of the vets getting a some last minute touchups on their hair. Make sure to stop at http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/buffalojills2005/2010/1st%20cuts/ where every vet as well as most of the beautiful rookies have videos up of their 1st rd tryout routines. Obviously the vets are labelled in the videos themselves but we'll be working on getting the rookies labelled below each video as well.
Finally, our reality star Amanda P, working on If I Can Dream with star maker Simon Fuller, is keeping busy in Hollywood after a weekend away from the house. About a week ago, she even shot a series of photos for a hot pin-up calendar. Make sure to check out the Calendar Shoot video here on the Buffalo Pro Cheer Blog.
We have 3 things to cover here and with tryouts being such a big story, I'll lead off with that. As many already know, Brian Garman has taken over as the Jills' official photographer this year. He hasn't exactly been a stranger as his photos of the Jills, select events around WNY, and the Rock Girls of 103.3 The Edge have been showing up on 97Rock and 103.3 The Edge's websites for the last couple of years now. His latest set of photos was taken at Sunday's workshop and can be found at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1733573&spid=21993
Speaking of 97Rock, Jickster has his NCBB (Buffalo Babes) Tournament in full swing right now and there's even a few former Jills in the mix. To no one's surprise, the 2009-2010 Jills Calendar Covergirl Katy advanced to the 2nd rd last week. This week, Danielle S (2006-09), Kristin B (2008-09), and Rachael (2005-07) join the mix in the hunt for a slot in the 2nd rd. View all the matchups and how to vote at http://www.97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1729726&spid=21994
Last, but certainly not least, is an update on our Hollywood Buffalo Jill, Amanda P. Yoga and acting classes have been her main focus the past week or so as she's been dealing with her nerves on delivering her first monologue. Be sure to check out Amanda's video logs at http://www.hulu.com/if-i-can-dream/amanda Included is some info on a play that she and Ben (from Hamburg, NY) are working on learning called The Key Exchange.
Also, here's a look at the latest episode from the cast. New episodes like this go up on Hulu every Tuesday. If you're on Twitter, be sure to keep up with what's going on by following Amanda at http://twitter.com/amanda_phill and the whole group at http://twitter.com/ificandream
First up, we bring the spotlight to 2005-07 beauty Amanda P. She's now been in Hollywood for a little over a week and will be starting up her acting classes this Friday. Since the If I Can Dream experience went live, she's definitely picked up her share of fans for her sense of humor as well as her beauty. One of the big things they've been doing to interact with the fans is scheduled tweet sessions on Twitter. What happens is all the housemates converge on the living room while fans tweet in with the show's producers selecting a number of tweets to be shown to the houseguests. Sometimes, they'll have a specific topic they want to focus on while other times, it's mostly general stuff. Simply log onto Twitter and follow @ificandream to get all the instructions and @iicdhouse to see which tweets go through to the houseguests. While you're at it, send your support to Amanda on Twitter via @amanda_phill
Here's her latest Video Log from Tuesday morning.
The other Jills alumnus we have some news about is someone who actually is only just becoming a "former Jill" as, despite our trying to convince her otherwise, Jills Swimsuit Calendar Covergirl Katy is moving on. As she's retiring from the Jills, she's got herself involved in a contest on 97Rock called Jickster's Tournament of Buffalo Babes. Check out http://97rock.com/Article.asp?id=1721286&spid=21994 for the details and be quick about it. The 1st round of voting in the Smokin Hot Region is over tomorrow. A fitting region for the beautiful Katy to be a part of.
As we previously reported, there's a new reality show starting up called If I Can Dream and 1 of the inaugural season's 5 stars is former Buffalo Jill Amanda P (2005-07).
Beginning on March 2nd, If I Can Dream will let you be a part of the lives of 5 talented young people as they pursue their dreams in Hollywood. Living together in a house in the hills, their every struggle and triumph is streamed online, in real time.
YOU can watch, interact, and participate along the way, taking the journey with Amanda, Ben, Giglianne, Justin and Kara before they become stars.
See every triumph. See every setback. See every minute:
As everyone knows, reality shows are all the rage now and the most popular style seems to be the shows that fulfill dreams of stardom. When it comes to making stars, British artist manager Simon Fuller is near-legendary, having managed or launched the careers of people like Claudia Schiffer, Annie Lennox, the Spice Girls, Carrie Underwood, and many others. More than that though, he's known as the creator of So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol. Hislatest project, entitled If I Can Dream, features participants living in a house in Hollywood while attempting to make their dreams come true, all while being filmed for online viewing as opposed to on television.
Now what, may you ask, does this have anything to do with Buffalo's Pro Cheerleaders? Well, while a lot of the girls have dreams of becoming a teacher, broadcaster, or business executive, some crave the limelight even more after their years dancing and cheering for Buffalo's sports teams are done. The first group of participants on If I Can Dream features one such young lady who spent 3 years as a Buffalo Jill and was also one of the top vote-getters in FHM's Sexiest Cheerleader Competition in 2006 (No offense to the winner, but we demand a recount). I'm talking, of course, about 2005-07 Jills alum Amanda P, who had dreams of becoming an actress or model and is now one step closer to realizing those dreams.
You can read more about the show, its future, and how you can interact with the show to help make Amanda's dream a reality at http://www.hulu.com/if-i-can-dream
Obviously, If I Can Dream has no affiliation with the Buffalo Jills and we're not suggesting that becoming a Jill will land you in Hollywood, but even big dreams like Amanda's were helped along by her experiences as a Buffalo Jill.
With tryouts for the 2008 Buffalo Jills coming up soon, it bears repeating that a girl who didn't make the cut one year could come back the next year and make the squad. This is the second week in a row we're taking a look at someone who didn't make the squad in 2004 but came back in 2005 and, thankfully not only for her but for her legions of fans, nailed a spot on the squad. Dancer Amanda P, who was found on one end of Aimee's line next to Jenica, is just finishing up her 3rd season with the Jills, a career that, so far, has included a national magazine shoot with FHM. In 2006, she was part of a group of cheerleaders to appear in the magazine and narrowly missed getting named "America's Sexiest Cheerleader" based off the photos in the magazine. The only reason she missed getting that award was the fact that FHM missed one important thing in the shoot....her pretty smile, something that certainly would've won her the contest.
