Pics from the 4th Annual BvB Buffalo Game

Hard to believe that 3 years ago, Buffalo was just about to become the 5th city to stage a Blondes Vs Brunettes powderpuff football game. Now, they are 1 of 31 cities in the United States with an annual game all with the purpose of raising funds to help fight Alzheimer's Disease.

I arrived just a little while before the team came out of the locker room to play and was greeted by a pair of rookie Buffalo Jills, Emmy and Ashley, who were selling balloons to be released in memory of loved ones lost to Alzheimer's disease. Soon, teams were introduced with Jills alum Jenn C representing the blondes from the sidelines and Danielle, Tammy, and Julie playing for the brunettes.

The game is billed as a powderpuff flag football game but, like every year, there does wind up being some actual tackling involved. Danielle, at WR, wasn't the recipient of any of those tackles but CBs Julie and Tammy were certainly dishing them out. The game itself ended in a 16-0 win for the blondes, their 1st win in the series in Buffalo which led me to one conclusion...Jenn C is a lucky charm since she played for the Brunettes the last 2 years when they won and now the Blondes win after she joins them (redheads can play for either team). If there's ever betting on these games, I'll put my money on whichever team she's affiliated with...lol. But in all seriousness, it was a hard-fought game a lot closer than the score indicated. One of the things they instituted in these games is a special bit of help to the team that raised more money for Alzheimer's. The team raising the higher amount of money gets to attempt a FG at halftime and the blondes made that FG the first points in the game after a scoreless first half.

When these ladies get together to play, they always have lots of support from friends, family, and, in the case of the Jills alumni, former squadmates like Jills alumni Erin J (1998-2002), Michelle M (1998-2000) and Korinne (2004-06). In the end, while the scoreboard showed that the Blondes won 16-0, the real winners were the many people in Western NY afflicted with Alzheimer's as this year's BvB organization raised over $63,000 for the Alzheimer's Association of Western NY.
